This is the first of two summative assessments for this module. Students will give an oral presentation.

The choice of topic for presentations is deliberately open-ended. Students are asked simply to present a summary presentation of their essay or strategy paper.

For the essay, this should focus on the concept(s) used in the essay, the case material, and the main argument or finding you want to share. In this case your audience is an academic who is familiar with the topic you are working on. You are welcome to use slides, but this is not obligatory.

For the strategy paper,r you should present your paper as if to the organisation set out in the assessment guidance. You will be expected to use evidence, present the structure of your strategy in a clear and logical way. You should also make clear which concepts and literature you have used to help design your paper.

In your presentation we expect you to structure is around the following three questions;

• What concept has been most useful in your essay/strategy paper
• Read one paragraph of your text and explain why you have put it together in the way you have
• Talk us through the references and how you put the references together

Learning outcomes

The oral presentation aims to assess the following learning outcomes:
• Ability to research and synthesize information from a range of materials into an oralpresentation
• Ability to use social analysis to argue persuasively using evidence to support an argument, and inform policy and practice audiences
• Ability to present material concisely to a public audience; ability to verbally articulate your argument clearly
• Ability to discuss complex issues and consider alternative views
• Ability to manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
