Assignment 2: Research Proposal

Assessment Brief

For this assignment, you need to write a research proposal on a topic of your choice, relevant to your degree. This proposal is a statement of intent for a research project to be undertaken and a reference point from which the project is examined. For instance, the proposal can be in preparation of your MSc individual project or for a PhD programme. Note, however, that there is no requirement that you undertake the project in the submitted proposal. In preparing your submission, you need to consider the following notes regarding topic choice, structure and content requirements.

1. Assignment Aims

 To gain experience in formulating a proposal for a research project.
 To become skilled in identifying research gaps and questions that address them.
 To become skilled in recognising and investigating a wide range of issues in computing research and practice.

2. Learning Outcomes:

 Plan, document, manage, deliver and critically evaluate a rationale for a project in computing (and in the context of the degree being studied) using appropriate methods of research, analysis and investigation, together with an evaluation of scientific risk.
 Identify and delineate the professional, legal and ethical issues raised by computing practice in organisations and in research, as well as the state of the art in a particular computing domain.
 Reflect critically on your own personal and professional development.
