Guidelines for Documentation

The following are guidelines for your PowerPoint slides:

• Introduction

Describe the key issue(s) and explain how it will improve or solve an existing key issue(s). Summarize the primary insights or calls to action that the storyboard illustrates.

• Data Preparation

You are required to build a digital storyboard using the given dataset. Begin by conducting basic data profiling to understand the structure and content of the dataset. While no data cleaning is required, you must identify and appropriately assign variables as dimensions or measures to support meaningful analysis.

As part of your data story:

• Create 2 calculated fields
• Use the calculated fields in at least 2 different visualisation within your storyboard.
• Clearly explain how the use of the calculated fields can help to support your narrative

Include relevant screenshots of your calculated fields and visualisations in your documentation.

• Storyboard and Narrative Model

Include screenshots showing key story points from your digital storyboard. In your documentation, highlight how narrative framework considerations are reflected in the design and layout. Clearly explain each key story point, while walking your audience through the narrative framework. Ensure your storyboard follows this structure:

• Introduction + Hook
• Rising Action
• Climax
• Falling Action
• Recommendations
• Call for Action

Background

The County Health Rankings dataset reveals significant disparities in health outcomes across U.S. counties. Some regions have seen remarkable improvements in health outcomes, while others continue to struggle with high rates of chronic diseases, limited access to healthcare, and poor environmental conditions. These disparities have been exacerbated by factors such as socioeconomic conditions, access to clinical care, and health behaviors like smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.

Despite recent improvements in health outcomes in certain counties, the data clearly shows that many regions still face challenges in areas like chronic disease rates, uninsured populations, and mental health issues. The goal of this analysis is to uncover patterns and identify areas where proactive health interventions can have the most significant impact.

As a data analyst, your task is to create a compelling data-driven story that highlights the progress made in health outcomes across various counties, while also identifying the key areas where further improvements are still needed. By analyzing the County Health Rankings dataset, you’ll uncover correlations between factors such as socioeconomic status, access to healthcare, and health behaviors to pinpoint the regions where targeted interventions could be most effective.

Present your findings to local health departments, policymakers, and community leaders, urging them to implement targeted health interventions in areas identified as high-risk. Use your analysis to recommend evidence-based policies aimed at improving healthcare access, promoting healthy behaviors, and addressing social determinants of health. Encourage them to adopt data-driven solutions to help improve the health rankings of the most affected counties, making measurable progress toward reducing health disparities.

Dataset

The dataset contains more than 80 measures that help communities understand more about health and opportunities in their communities, how healthy their residents are today (Population Health and Well-being) and what factors are impacting future health (Community Conditions)
