Understand the structure of the eukaryotic cell and the functions of the different components

Overview

This unit is assessed through a mixture of written tasks, questions and answers, and drawings contained in one workbook. The word limit for the whole assignment is 2000 words (+/—10%).

Task 1: Cell Organelles and Cellular Specialisation Handout.

This task involves composing a handout for a fellow student who missed the lecture on the relationship between structure and function of cell organelles and cellular specialisation.

Task 2: Plasma Membrane and Levels of Organisation Short Questions

This task involves answering a series of short questions on the plasma membrane, movement of molecules across the membrane and levels of organisation in body systems.

Task 3: Mitosis and Meiosis Comparison Table and Structured Question

This task involves completing a table to compare the similarities and differences between mitosis and meiosis and answering a structured question relating to the role of these processes in adults.

Task 4: Stem Cell Magazine Article Outline

This task involves writing an outline for a magazine article on how medical science uses stems cells in the development of treatments and/or research.
