As part of the formal assessment for the programme you are required to submit a Professional Practice in Business and Management assignment. Please refer to your Student Handbook for full details of the programme assessment scheme and general information on preparing and submitting assignments.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing the module, you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skills and competences required for management and leadership, and for personal and professional development, and processes for developing them.
2. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and understanding of the hard and soft skills of employability; demonstrating a range of work-based competencies including the ability to work in teams and other general interpersonal skills such as leadership and report writing skills.
3. Demonstrate skills in using a range of reflective models to reflect on decisions, behaviours and actions to inform future personal, professional and leadership development for contemporary managers.
4. Critically analyse factors that influence career development such as complex political and socio-economic  considerations, drawing from personal experience.
5. (GA) Contextually innovative: through applying skills of critical, creative, and evidenced based analysis and/or personal reflection to current real-world situations and future challenges.

Your assignment should include: a title page containing your student number, the module name, the submission deadline and the exact word count of your submitted document; the appendices if relevant; and a reference list in AU Harvard system(s).

Scenario

You have completed your MBA program, and you are now in the process of applying for a senior consultancy position at the CPD Certification Service which was established in 1996 and has now positioned itself as the world's leading and largest independent CPD accreditation institution operating across all industry sectors. As part of your interview, you are expected to submit a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your academic writing and employ ability skills. Use the tasks below as a guide to compile the portfolio of evidence needed for this role:

Assignment Task

Part 1-Report:

Worth 50% of your overall grade for this module
• Carry out a critical review of continuous professional development activities and skills needed for contemporary managers; this should be informed by academic literature and otherwise authoritative professional sources.
• Critically evaluate the importance of contemporary managers using a structured model of reflection to reflect (such as Gibbs reflective cycle, Kolb reflective cycle and Driscoll model) on ways of improving their employability skills.

Part 2

Portfolio of employability Skills:
• Produce a personal development plan (PDP) showing development goals, success criteria (or expected skills), timeline and how it will enhance your career in leadership and management.
• Produce an updated CV and a Cover letter for a position of senior consultancy at the CPD Certification Service
• Use a model of reflection of your choice to reflect on your learning experience in the Professional Practice in Business and Management module. The reflection should highlight some soft skills gained from the learning experience and how they will enhance your career opportunities.
