University University Of Chester Module Title BU7764 Strategic Project Management

Assessment Task

The module will be assessed by a ‘Reflective Portfolio of Personal Learning Points’ which accounts for 100% of the module assessment.  This is an authentic and practically orientated assignment whereby you produce a portfolio of 4000 words demonstrating your own personal learning and development covering each of the 6 Learning Outcomes for the module, identified above.

Reassessment, if needed, will take the original form but, if asked to resubmit, you must address the comments made by markers in the feedback for your first submission.

The title of your assignment should be:

Reflective Portfolio of Personal Learning Points

Your Brief

You will produce a portfolio (4000 words +/-10%), equating to approximately 500 words for each the 6 Learning Outcomes, reflecting your own personal learning points across the main topics covered in the module.  You are reminded that these learning outcomes are to:

  1. Critically analyse the overarching vision, objectives and strategic direction of projects;
  2. Reflect critically on the application of project management principles and techniques relevant to location or industrial context;
  3. Demonstrate a grasp of how to plan, schedule and manage/control projects;
  4. Understand the competencies a project manager needs and the distinctive (cross-) organizational, cultural, teamwork and leadership challenges they face;
  5. Use a range of fundamental project management tools and techniques; and
  6. Understand the basic principles of the main project management bodies of knowledge and methodologies.

Therefore, the subheadings for the main body of your assignment must be:

  • Vision, Objectives and Strategic Direction of Projects
  • Project Management Principles and Techniques in Different Contexts
  • Project Management Planning, Scheduling and Control
  • Competencies Demanded of a Project Manager
  • Example Application of a Project Management Tool or Technique
  • Project Management Bodies of Knowledge and Methodologies

Please note, the detailed structure of your portfolio assignment (including Executive Summary and other requirements) is given towards the end of this document.

Using the prescribed and mandatory subheadings above means you should ensure your assignment reflects the six (6) Learning Outcomes for this module and demonstrates your understanding of the module content.  You are provided with a marking criteria grid at the end of this guide which reflects the Learning Outcomes and other factors.   This marking grid will be used as a Turnitin rubric in the marking and feedback for the assignment.

You are encouraged to develop the portfolio throughout the duration of the module, but you must submit the assignment as a single Word document.

The word count excludes the subheadings (around 40-45 words), assignment title headings, the reference section and any appendices.  Appendices, if used, are restricted to a maximum of 3 pages.

References can be included as appropriate but should be used sparingly given the constraints on word count for each topic.  Remember the portfolio is a log of your own personal learning, not a literature review!

Notes:

  1. Word count for the whole assignment must be 4000 words +/-10% (i.e. between 3600 and 4400 words).
  2. Submit via Turnitin on the module Moodle pages .   You must submit as a Word document.  PDF or other formats will be rejected and not marked.
  3. Use course texts and other reputable literature to back up and inform your views.
  4. Top marks will be awarded to those assignments which indicate clearly indicate the application of concepts, principles and techniques learned on the module.
  5. This assignment accounts for 100% of overall module assessment.

Please note, the portfolio assignment must be ENTIRELY your own work, and in your own words – bear in mind Turnitin automatically checks for plagiarism and similarities between your work, published sources and other student submissions!  We also deploy other checks on submissions.

There will be very severe consequences in cases of plagiarism, commissioning or other types of academic misconduct.
