BMA4002-20 Economics and Globalisation Assessment 1 Individual Report

You are asked to choose a commodity ( food or other – please ensure you know the definition of a commodity) and write a briefing note with an accompanying set of PowerPoint slides (maximum of 12) for your superior who is not an economist. They are giving a presentation on How world commodity prices (for a chosen commodity) have changed in the last 10 years, in relation to the change in world oil prices.

Each slide should be accompanied by notes that are in effect the presentation script. These notes form the bulk of your report and should be correctly Harvard-referenced and use academic writing. Your slides should be attractive and not have too much text.

The report should not exceed 2500 words, +/-10% (including both the slides and notes) excluding references and appendices. Your work should be submitted using the Turnitin link on Minerva, in PDF or Word format ( NOT in PowerPoint) by 29.03.2024 at midday, 12:00.

You Need to Include:

•  Relevant statistical data for the 10-year period
• An analysis of the factors that have impacted on the world commodity prices.
• The link between commodity prices and oil prices fluctuations

You should make use of the following economic concepts:

• Demand and supply analysis
• Elasticity of demand and supply
• substitutes and complements

Make sure you define all concepts clearly and reference them appropriately.

Include the relevant diagrams and statistics on your slides with clear explanations of their use in your analysis (in text) and references when you did not create them.

Use the Harvard System to reference your report properly, including both in-text referencing and end-of-paper reference list. Failing to do so will lead to a loss in a mark. You should upload a Microsoft Word document or PDF to Turnitin (not PowerPoint, as in that case your notes will be lost).

At students’ request, a median sample paper will be released with the explicit understanding that no student will use this commodity in their report – failure to abide by this rule will lead to a capped mark.
