General Focus

You are asked to choose a commodity ( food or other)  and write a briefing note with an accompanying set of PowerPoint slides (a maximum of 12) for your superior (not an economist). 

He/she is giving a presentation on how world commodity prices (for a chosen commodity) are changing and what, if any, the connection is with the change in world oil prices.

Each slide should be accompanied by notes that explain what the slides show.

The report should not exceed 2500 WORDS (slides and notes) excluding references and appendices. 

Your work should be submitted on Turnitin in PDF or Word format ( NOT in PowerPoint).

Key areas: 

You need to include: 

1. Relevant data for the 10 years.
2. The link between commodity prices and oil prices.
3. Any other factors that have impacted the world commodity prices?

You should make use of the following economic concepts:

a. Demand and supply analysis.
b. Elasticity of demand and supply.
c. Substitutes and complements.

• Make sure you define all concepts clearly.
• Include diagrams on your slides with clear and relevant explanations.
• Use a range of sources, for example, textbooks, academic journal papers, the latest economic news and data sites, and economists' and specialists’  comments to support your findings, discussions and suggestions/recommendations.
• Use the Harvard System to properly reference your report, including both in-text referencing and end-of-paper reference list. Failing to do so will lead to a loss of a mark. 
• You should upload a Microsoft Word document or a PDF to Turnitin (not PowerPoint, as in that case, your notes will be lost).

Reference List:

All coursework must contain a Reference List containing a listing of all the works you have referred to and quoted from in your work.  

This is good academic practice. 

You must cite the author’s work in your text when you refer to it and list it in your Reference List.

• Consider a clear and professional report title and title page
• The student number and name are displayed on the front page of the report.
• Consider the professional features of your report, including page layout, font, paragraphs, formatstyle (report), etc.
• Make sure each page is numbered.
• Please use 1.5-spaced typing, 11 point.
• Each paragraph should be separated by a line space/and paragraphs justified straight on the right-hand side

Academic Writing Support:

Professional reports should be grammatically correct, using UK English spelling, and be error-free with comprehensive in-text citations of all sources using the Harvard system. It is strongly recommended that you make use of the university's academic writing and support services. Individual appointments are available from your campus library or academic support ofÏce. In addition, your lecturer will be available for assessment workshops during class times during the final weeks of the course. You should not expect your lecturer to review an entire draft or give feedback by email.
