Assessment summary

The Literature Review Essay will require students to carry out extensive research into a key training issue of your choice. Students will choose their topic of interest in relation to Training. Topics might include: training for generational differences, for engagement, training for stress management, leadership, EQ, or organisational skills

Students will produce a literature review-based academic essay discussing their findings. It is designed to encourage strategic thinking about the design and delivery of training events. 

Students are to demonstrate, through their essay, a critical and analytical appreciation and comparison of the key concepts, models, and perspectives of training, and to demonstrate how theory of training can contribute to HRM. 

Students must be able to: 

  • Analyse, evaluate, and compare issues associated with national and/or international training practices 
  • Go beyond a descriptive account of processes and procedures 
  • Use relevant literature to develop an analytical argument and critical discussion 
  • Use literature search to review theories, models, and frameworks 
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the key issues including TNA and Evaluation 
  • Present academic formatted essay using the Harvard Referencing System

2. An introduction: This introduces the topic of training generally and the area you are focussing on in this literature review. 
3. The Literature on the topic chosen, reference to key theories and clear examples.
4. A critical evaluation of the literature, with arguments for and against clearly outlined.
5. A conclusion of the literature review and summary;
6. References – Please use HARVARD reference system.

  2. Explore and critically evaluate major theories relating to the training design process and their relevance in different cultures, contexts and business sectors.
  3. Contribute to the design and provision of effective training designs utilising learning technologies in an appropriate way.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of individual differences in learning, applicable to the design of a training programme.
  5. Describe different approaches to in the formulation of training programmes including a thorough Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
  6. Use and interpret research from a wide range of appropriate sources – professional and academic – to explain and demonstrate current teaching, training and facilitation trends
  7. Utilise and critically evaluate the effectiveness of different training designs and application for organisational use.
