Task 

We are asking you to do two things:

  • Produce a personal development plan. For this you will need to benchmark yourself against the ‘Core Behaviours’ section of the HR profession map. This is sometimes known as a personal skills audit or a ‘gap analysis’ (approximately 1500 words).
  • Produce a critical account of one HR practice that has been discussed over the semester. (500 words).

Over the Semester we have considered a number of different HR practices:

  • Processing a request for Flexible Working
  • The process for managing long-term absence 
  • The process for managing high short-term absence
  • Managing a redundancy process in a department (reducing a team of 4 staff to 2 staff)

Choose one of these situations and write up to 500 words outlining the process to demonstrate your knowledge of the details of it.

Proposed structure of the assessment

Please have two distinct sections for your patchwork assessment.  Please use the marking guidelines to help you with this. Here are also further guidelines for your reflective report.
Personal Development Plan

As discussed, the Profession Map is designed for those already working in HR. However, there are some behaviours at which you can begin to develop without actually working in the field. You must choose six of these behaviours and make an honest assessment of where you are now in relation to them.
