Assignment Task  

Students will work in groups to investigate a key condition related to reproductive  endocrinology. 

The assessment task includes a group poster AND an individual summary report. Group Poster (50% of the assessment mark): 
Group allocations: Students enrolled on this module will be allowed to select their own  working groups, but these must be made up of four or five students only. One member of  each group MUST inform the module leader of the students in their group by the end of week  2 of semester 2. The module leader will then randomly allocate a research topic to each group  (see below for the topic list). The topic allocation will be released on AULA under the  Assessment tab and will be available at the end of week 3.

• Gonadal dysgenesis 
• Polysomies 
• Klinefelter syndrome 
•  Dysgenetic infertility 
• Kallman syndrome 
•  Males with androgen deficiency (MAD) 
• Females with androgen excess (FAE) 
• Androgen insensitivity syndromes 

This assessment requires students to integrate knowledge from the 5038BMS module and  information from their own reading and research.

The poster should include the following  information:

a) The name of the condition 
b) The underlying endocrine/biochemical changes that occur in this condition 
c) The symptoms associated with the condition and how these relate to the endocrine  and biochemical changes  
d) How the condition is diagnosed. In this section, you will need to discuss the  biochemical analytes measured, give a brief explanation of the assays used and any  additional tests that might be performed. When discussing the biochemical assays, the  expected analyte concentrations in individuals with the disease and the reference  range should be mentioned. e) How the condition is treated 
f) Reference list 

There is no word limit for the poster, but the information in sections a-e should fit within the  template provided (in the Assessment section on Aula) and the font should be no smaller than  24 point. References can be provided on a separate page.
