XFX0030 Assessment Task  

Context:

The classical school of management theory advocates for the prioritisation of operational efficiency, whereas the behavioural school of management advocates for meeting the needs of workers to provide optimum motivation through high levels of job satisfaction, security and belonging. There are arguments, and criticisms, of both points of view.

Amazon claims it has significantly improved conditions for workers, but some recent reports still claim that employees are treated poorly, monitored excessively and are not guaranteed work from one day to the next. Produce a report which analyses the benefits and limitations of Amazon’s style of management. Please ensure you:

  • Analyse how the management / leadership style, and organisational culture, affects employees at Amazon (LO3)
  • Assess the culture and management / leadership style at Amazon in relation to two or more behavioural or human relations theories (LO4, LO5, LO6)
  • Design a programme of change for Amazon in relation to one or more theoretical models which incorporate a plan to minimise resistance to change and improve communication (LO4, LO7, LO8)
