Part 1. Appraisal of changes in Health Care over the last 160 years.

(LO 1) You must bring together the learning you have experienced in class, in research and in discussion.

a) Criterion 1.1 Health care. Produce a table to describe health care in the nineteenth century and today. This will enable you to organise the information in an accessible way to compare and contrast the health care in 1850 and that provided today. The table should be set out as shown below, although you should have at least 10 bullet points.

b) Criteria1.2 Range of scientific discoveries by pioneers Describe and evaluate the work of 2 pioneers of medicine who have had a significant impact on health care since 1850

c) Criterion1.3 Discuss the changing ideas on the causes of disease since 1850 and evaluate how these ideas changed health care since that time (2-3 sentences maximum) Word limit for part 1: 400 words (parts b and c)

Part 2. Report describing and evaluating the contribution and efficacy of two non- governmental organisations (LO 2)

Produce a report on the roles and responsibilities voluntary agencies. Consider 2 non- statutory organisations and describe and evaluate their contribution to health care. (2.1)

• What are their roles? How do they operate
• Who do they report to? How are they funded?
•  What are their strengths and weaknesses? i.e. evaluate their efficacy
• You may use bullet points, but ensure you cover all the assessment criteria.

General points:

• Make sure that you cannot be accused of plagiarism. (This also means that you cannot just copy out a lot of information from source material and put it in inverted commas (“”)!)
• Remember you need to reference the sources of information that you use. Attach a reference list (or bibliography if applicable) to your work. This should include books, internet sources, class handouts and information from other colleagues if you have used them. Use the Harvard method.
• Your grammar, punctuation and spelling will also be assessed.
• Try hard not to “waffle” as this will eat into your word limits.
• Word count for the whole assignment: 1500 words
• You will be allowed 10% either way of your word limit. You must include a word count.
