Assessment background / scenario:

You are working as a Machine Learning Engineer for a small AI technology R&D company called Tayako Technologies. As part of your role, you lead on educational, research, analysis and development projects relating to emerging and innovative technology. The primary offering of the company is the provision of consultancy, training, analysis and development of AI technologies.

Your company has taken on a new client, a multi-national online retailer of motor and motorcycles called Bento Motors, and your manager has asked you to lead on managing all projects in relation to this new client.

Assessment Task 1 – Critical Report

Assessment Task 1  Critical Report

Bento Motors have a large technology team but none of their team members have specialist knowledge in AI technology. You have been asked to produce a report for the senior leadership team on various emerging and innovative AI technologies, including (but not limited to):

  • Evolution of AI (history to current developments)
  • Various uses of AI, such as Image Processing, Computer Vision, Robotics, Pattern Recognition, Speech Recognition, Conversational Agents and Chatbots, etc.
  • Intelligent system design principles
  • AI concepts and development techniques such as:

Machine Learning
Classification and Prediction
Supervised, Unsupervised and Reinforcement Learning
Data Analysis
Deep Learning
Neural Networks
NLP
Expert Systems

  • Legal, social, ethical and professional issues surrounding AI and its sub-components.

You need to ensure you critically evaluate on the above concepts as the aim of the report is to be circulated to the senior leadership team at Bento Motors, so that they can decide on which AI technologies to implement in their company. The senior leadership team do not have expertise in computing and therefore, the report must take this into consideration.

Report format:

Your submission must take the form of a report. The first page of the report must be a title page which should clearly state your name and student ID, and other details such as the title, date etc. You must have a header consisting of your names, exercise number and a footer that causes all pages to be numbered in the format x of y (e.g. 2 of 6). The file should be named as follows: <first name>_<surname>_<student id>.docx, where <first-name>, <surname> and <student id> are your first name, your surname and your student ID, respectively. 10% of the marks are awarded for presentation.

Assessment Task 2 – Practical Assessment Development & Report

Assessment Task 2  Practical Assessment Development & Report

Part A - Development

After a review of your report produced in Task 1, the senior leadership team at Bento Motors wants you to analyse their data over the years using Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques using any IDE (Integrated

Development Environment) such as Jupyter notebook, Google Colab,

etc. Google Colab environment will be used in this module for teaching purposes.

In order to analyse the data, you need to implement and run these tasks.

1. Data | Domain Understanding and Exploration (e.g., load the data, sample observation, check correct parsing of data, identify quantitative and qualitative features, analyse data distributions (e.g., range, centrality, dispersion, shape), identify good predictors, process the data for visualisation and exploration)............

2. Data Processing for Machine Learning (e.g., detect and deal with noise (i.e., erroneous values), missing values, and outliers, subset, reshape and engineer features for machine learning purposes; categorically-encode, rescale data; split data into predictors and target; obtain train | validation | test folds)

3. Model Building (e.g., choose suitable algorithms, fit and tune models; grid-search, rank, and select model(s) on based on evaluation metrics and under| overfit trade-off).

4. Model Evaluation and Analysis (e.g., evaluate selected model(s) with score | loss metrics with cross-validation, analyse actual vs predicted plot, gain and discuss insights based on feature importance, analyse individual prediction of and distribution of scores | losses together with predictors).

5. Model Interpretation (Ethical AI) (e.g., use of SHAP framework or any other framework to interpret the model prediction, use of other frameworks to develop dashboard to showcase model interpretation is optional).

6. Model Deployment | Development of User Interface - this is completely optional (e.g., choose one of these frameworks to deploy your trained model and make prediction if possible: Flask, FastAPI, Microsoft Azure ML, Amazon SageMaker and Streamlit.

In model building, evaluation and analysis, it is required that at least two Machine learning models (Algorithms) covered in this module are employed and reported on.

NOTE: The dataset for the assessment will be shared in Week 3 or Week 4 as a .csv file and DON’T redistribute the dataset.

Part B  Practical Report

You will keep a practical report documenting the use of AI techniques in analysing the company’s data and providing rationales with theoretical underpinning for all choices made.

You should also document what you may have done differently, and the challenges involved. E.g. was there a better way of using a methodology that was considered too risky and therefore not employed? Furthermore, identify the non-functional aspects of the project, i.e. social, professional, ethical and legal issues, and address

the implications of each of the latter with regards to the system specified. Form and document opinions supported by evidence with

regards to both the functional and non-functional issues and present these in formal language.

Your submission must take the form of a Report (docx format) and technical output - an ipynb documented, reproducible Python notebook and a sample of data used.

 Practical Assessment

(Word count: 3000 words +/-10% or equivalent code output) 60% of marks.

Total Marks available  100%

ADDITIONAL TASKS INSTRUCTIONS

  • Your academic report must have a coherent structure supported by thorough research and referencing.
  • Work must be referenced using the Harvard referencing system.
  • Your academic report must be in Arial Font 12 and double line spaced.

Self-reflection, action planning and Critical thinking

The level of understanding demonstrated in this work is limited. The self-reflection has a poorly defined focus, little critical reflection and there are failings in the use of a reflective model. Events are treated at a surface level.

Actions are undefined and may not be fully linked to self-reflection. Key areas of self-reflection are not discussed and there are some significant issues that need addressing.

The level of understanding demonstrated in this work is adequate. The self- reflection has a focus, however, the critical reflection is somewhat brief.

Events are described, but not analysed in depth. Actions are clear and there is some link with self-reflection, but more use could be made of strategies to make them achievable. There are some significant areas that could be expanded upon, clarified or corrected.

The level of understanding demonstrated in this work is satisfactory to good. The self-reflection has a clear focus, however, the critical reflection is brief in some areas. Events are used to aid in reflection, but could be more fully analysed in some areas. Actions are clear and link with self- reflection, and there is a clear use of strategies to make them achievable. However, there are some significant areas  that could be expanded upon, clarified or corrected.

The level of understanding demonstrated in this work is very good level of understanding. The self-reflection is clearly focussed and justified and critical reflection is in evidence throughout. Events are used to aid in reflection, and fully analysed.

Actions are clear and link with the self- reflection, and use strategies very well to make them achievable. However, there are some areas that could be expanded upon, clarified or corrected.

The level of understanding demonstrated in this work is excellent. The self-reflection is fully justified and strongly focussed.

Critical reflection is used at a high level throughout. Events are closely linked to the self-reflection and fully analysed at all points. Actions lead on seamlessly from the self-reflection and make full use of strategies to make them achievable. The work shows a high level of self-awareness, use of self-reflection as a integral part of working and formulation of long-term planning.

Communication Techniques, Writing Style and Presentation

Inadequate presentation, use of grammar, vocabulary, spelling and flow.

Adequate presentation, use of grammar, vocabulary, spelling and flow, however there are some areas for improvement.

Satisfactory use of grammar, vocabulary, spelling and flow. Your work is generally presented well, but there are some areas for improvement.

Very good grammar, vocabulary, spelling and flow. Strong presentation of work and/or data including structure, formatting, use of titles and headings.
