Coursework Assignment:

Coursework Title: This is a case study assignment using your learning to assess a company’s sustainability plan, identify issues and recommend new sustainable strategies 

Task Details/Description: 

An individual report (maximum 3000 words).

• Select a company, a large multinational or transnational company would be best 

Critically evaluate its current sustainability strategies and process (operations) using your learning from the module, including theories, concepts, frameworks and models you have learned in the module.

These can include, sustainability theories such as the SDGs, Gaia theory, CSR theories and various associated models, and greenwashing. 

Think about what company is claiming, ie good work they are doing; what is it not telling you; what have you found; what do competitors say, what is written about the company ie any scandals? Eg emissions, labour violations, human rights issues, not meeting benchmark standards

• Consider the company’s diverse stakeholders; select approx.. 3 key ones, their needs and how to obtain ‘buy in’ from these for your proposed strategies; these may include shareholders, customers,
  board, employees, community and/or others. analysis would help with
• Develop strategies/recommendations the company could implement to improve its sustainability, reputation, partnerships and anything else you see as appropriate. Use a strategic model for implementing these,ie Kotter, adkar, Kubler Ross, Lewins, 7s or others.

Module Learning Outcomes Assessed:

1. Exploration of the different theories, models, methods and concepts ofbusiness sustainably, understanding how to implement and evaluatestrategic business sustainability.
2. A critical awareness of recent developments and academic research in the area of strategic business sustainability. 
3. The formulation of coherent arguments, the defence of a position and reflection on critical views and debates. Increasing self-awareness and self-knowledge through the learning on the module.
4. An examination of the complexity and diversity of the physical environment through closed systems, the Gaia Theory and the major drivers of unsustainability.
5. Enhanced decision-making skills, critical evaluation and analytical skills through participation in the coursework.

Assessment Criteria

The individual report provides students with the opportunity to embed their learning and apply to a real life business, by critically evaluating the company’s current position and recommending future strategies to improve business sustainability.

Care should be taken to discuss topics that they understand in as much depth as possible in order to ‘see’ how they relate their learning to assessment task. This will apply to stakeholders within or outside of the organisation but are connected to the organisation.

Assessment Criteria Rubric:

The argumentation must be coherent and substantiated. The analysis, synthesis and evaluation must use relevant theory/conceptual underpinnings in a critical fashion. Moreover, the value of theories and conceptual models to address the change process should be critically considered. Sources of information must be referenced appropriately.
