SPMM5003: Sport Heritage Archive Project Reassessment 

Students will be reassessed on the heritage project using only the materials held in DMU Special Collections and which allows for heritage research about a sport organization or event to be conducted. Each student will use their original topic and use the materials held in DMU Special Collections to tell an interesting history about that aspect of the organization’s past and written from the perspective of the organization itself.

For the reassessment students will use THE SAME SELECTED TOPIC FROM THE ORIGINAL ASSIGNMENT but should find additional material within the archives. The reassessment should focus on DIFFERENT ASPECTS OR REFRAME the previously used content. Students are expected to use the feedback from the original assignment.

**NOTE: Special Collections may be closed for some days over the summer. You will need to contact them immediately to ensure you have time to conduct your research

Students will identify the appropriate materials, select the relevant images, and write 500-1000 words on their assigned portion of the overall project, topic from the heritage project. This word count includes appropriate captions for the selected images accompanying the text.

These need to be laid out accordingly alongside the images in a design which is visually attractive and interesting. Students should use Adobe Photoshop and InDesign for this project, selecting an appropriate size and layout.
Due to the nature of the module’s assessments, none of the assessed work is marked anonymously.

Please ensure the following reference guidelines are followed:

• References within the text must use footnotes or endnotes – see British Chicago style reference guide on LearningZone for archival material and newspapers
• All accompanying images should be identified with archival information in the appropriate British Chicago reference style
• Make sure you put short quotations (less than 50 words) in speech marks (e.g. “example”)
• Do not use long or block quotations
  Students should include a bibliography following the assignment.

The final file submitted should be converted to a pdf. Students might need to reduce the pdf size so that the assignment can be uploaded on Turnitin. The assignment must be submitted electronically through the Turnitin system.

The cover page for the assignment must include a WORD COUNT.
