Instructions:
- The examination question paper is worth 70 marks.
- It consists of SIX (6) questions. Answer ALL the questions.
- The duration of the examination on the timetable is 3 hours.
- The exam will be available on myUnisa on 23 May 2025 from 12:45 to 15:45(South African Standard Time). Your answers must be submitted via the myExam platform on 23 May 2025 on or before 15:45 (South African Standard Time).
- In addition to the duration of the examination indicated on the timetable, you are given 30 minutes to FINALISE uploading your exam file. Your exam file must be uploaded via the myExams platform by 16:15 (South African Standard Time).
- This is an open-book examination. You may consult your prescribed study material during the examination. DO NOT copy directly from the study guide or additional sources. No marks will be given to work that was copied (plagiarised).
- This examination is proctored via the Invigilator App. You are required to activate (or log in to) the Invigilator App between 12:30 and 13:15 (South African Standard Time).
- Please note: If you are found to have been outside the Invigilator App for 10 minutes during your examination session, you will be considered to have violated Unisa's examination rules and your marks will be withheld.

- Explain the meaning of 'access control' as a security control measure. (5)

- Explain some of the challenges organisations might face when implementing intruder alarm systems and provide examples to support your explanation. (8)

- Explain how each reason is effective and give examples to support your explanation.

- In your own words, explain the meaning of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). (5)
- Evaluate the use of multiple security layers, such as fences, lighting and surveillance cameras, to create a comprehensive security strategy. (5)

- In an airport environment, a security control room is a central place where security staff watch and manage different security systems. These systems usually include CCTV cameras for video surveillance, access control systems, alarm systems and other security technologies. Based on this, what are the main functions of a security control room in an airport environment? (10)
Question 6
- In a manufacturing plant, a single security officer can only monitor a limited area based on their line of sight. Considering this limitation, how would you evaluate the effectiveness of using manned security, security technology, or a combination of both to enhance security in an industrial environment? Discuss the advantages and potential challenges of integrating human personnel with technological aids. Provide suggestions and solutions to improve security measures. (15)
