A column in Figure 3 below consists of two grade 300W steel PC300 x 100 Parallel Flange Channels arranged as shown. The column, which is 9 m long, is connected such that it is fixed at both ends about its major principal axis X-X and fixed at the top and pinned at the bottom end about its minor principal axis Y-Y.

3.1 Calculate the Euler buckling load for the strut (14). 

3.2 Calculate the failure load for the strut according to Rankine's theory (2).
