Assignment Question

  • Based on the mineral beneficiation and separation methods you learnt in this unit (i.e., excluding hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy), explain in detail what unit operations and processing routes you think are suitable to produce high-grade concentrates of monazite for the given ore type. Discuss potential by-product/s recovery from this range of minerals and the proposed mineral processing circuit. Describe any assumption considered in your report (e.g., particle size, target concentrate grade, etc). Use sketches and/or drawings if possible. (35 marks)
  • Discuss in detail how the gangue minerals are separated/rejected. Describe how the mineral processing tailings would look like (composition, characteristics, etc) and possible considerations to handle them (8 marks)
  • Show your flowsheet with detailed reagent schemes, etc, as required (7 marks)
