INTRODUCTION

The Professional Life Practice module serves as an essential foundation for developing collaborative and interdisciplinary skills among undergraduate students at Ravensbourne. This module aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, particularly within the computing sector.

ASSESSMENT PROJECT BRIEF – Breakdown / detail

In this Professional Life Practice module, you will explore the intersection of your emerging computing knowledge with interdisciplinary professional practices. The aim is to prepare you for future careers by developing key competencies in collaborative work, creativity, and industry readiness. During the semester, you will engage with practice-based activities designed to enhance your confidence, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, all while working alongside students from other disciplines. You will also examine industry demand for certifications in areas such as Networking, Database development, and Software Development, selecting and preparing for one that aligns with your career goals. Through reflective exercises, you will identify key industries within computing, explore various job prospects and certification requirements, and consider the social and ethical implications of the computing field. The assignment requires you to maintain a Learning Journal (2000 words) documenting your research, reflections, and progress throughout the module. This journal will demonstrate your understanding of multidisciplinary collaboration, team dynamics in the computing industry, and how your developing practice can address real- world challenges for social impact and entrepreneurship.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Career Development: Begin to formulate your career aspirations and explore entrepreneurial opportunities in computing, including areas like cybersecurity and software development.
  2. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engage in collaborative projects with peers from various disciplines to
    foster innovative approaches to problem-solving.
  3. Creative Application: Reflect on the social purpose of creativity and its impact in the computing field, emphasizing ethical considerations and industry demands.
  4. Certification Preparation: Research and prepare for relevant industry certifications that align with your
    career goals and interests.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

Research and Exploration: Identify key industries and certification requirements in computing. Develop a thorough understanding of job prospects and the skills needed for success.

  • Collaborative Workshops: Participate in workshops and masterclasses that emphasize teamwork, creativity, and the sharing of knowledge across disciplines.
  • Learning Journal: Maintain a learning journal (2000 words) to document your research, reflections on ethical issues, and insights gained from collaborative activities. This journal will serve as the primary assessment for the module.

SUBMISSION:

  • Learning Journal (2000 words): This reflective document will be assessed on the demonstration of research, critical thinking, and engagement with the module content, and will account for 100% of the assessment.

Assessment and tutor feedback date

Grades and feedback will be released either within or up to a maximum of 20 working days after the assessment submission date.

Academic Misconduct

As specified in our General Academic Regulations, Academic Misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, inappropriate use of AI applications and tools, collusion, fabrication of information, contract cheating etc) will be dealt with formally following our procedure for Academic Misconduct. This means for example, close similarity between students’ assessments, suspected use of AI, or third- party completion of assessed work and assessments that are not referenced appropriately are likely to lead to an investigation. The penalty for academic misconduct is a fail grade with an additional penalty applied according to the gravity of the case.

If you have any doubts about how to avoid plagiarism, inappropriate use of AI or how group work assessments are submitted to recognise individuals’ work and contribution, please discuss this with the module tutor or Course Leader.

When you submit your assessments, you will be asked to complete/sign a declaration that it is your own work.

Late submissions

Modules with Pass/Fail assessments: These assessments do not have a 24-hour allowance for late submissions but you can still apply for a 5-day extension or Extenuating Circumstances (ECs).

Academic Regulations 25/26

To pass this module, you should aim to submission work before the deadline shown within this brief.

However, it you fail to submit the work you will be offered 2 further retrieval opportunities. The grade for both retrieval opportunities will be capped unless you have approved Extenuating Circumstances.

You will be notified of a new deadline date for the retrieval opportunities via a ‘Retrieval Module

brief’.
