Evaluating Digital Sources of Information 

Digital resources and networks are valuable for self-directed learning, but they also create new challenges. We can tap vast resources and learn from network connections where people share their interests, knowledge, perspectives, expertise, and opinions online. At the same time, however, we need to use higher-order thinking to distinguish reliable and/or sustainable information and sources. In addition, using the internet and its expansive array of resources requires persistence, self-monitoring, open-mindedness, and flexibility.

For this assignment, you will need to conduct original research and exercise your ability to evaluate online resources, compare them with other sources, and ultimately assess online resources and the role they play in providing accurate and reliable information for your topic.     

Question 1 

For this assignment, you will conduct research online and create a research report based on the source type.  

Your research topic should align with your GBA topic, as this assignment will contribute to your GBA project.

Your report should include the following: 

1. Assessment and comparison of non-digital sources.  You should assess and compare accuracy, reliability, access, accountability, and relevance. You can refer to sources that you have come across in your studies, work, or other experience. 

2. Discussion and evaluation of digital information, including discussion of accuracy, reliability, access,  accountability,  and relevance, as well as outreach potential and engagement.   

3. Identification and explanation of digital trends and tools for spreading your message.   

4. Discussion of the usefulness of regulation when it comes to your research topic and/or research area. Discuss the rationale either for or against regulation and the explanation of forms of regulation.

Cite all sources, including course materials and AI-generated content. Use the APA referencing format for in-text citations and for the reference section.  Citations, reference list, and any appendices are not included in the word count.
