On completion of this module, students should:
Explore through practice-based research strategies to contribute, disrupt, or innovate within your field. Your project will be informed by your current professional practice and will be evidenced through case studies, critical analysis, and evaluation of your methodologies. You will critically reflect on your processes to evaluate and rationalise impacts on your current profession, industries, and future employability.
The module adopts a synoptic strategy and provides the opportunity for students to design a project based on individual professional practice within an identified work-based context. With the support from your tutor, you will identify and formulate your learning objectives within a project plan, containing defined and measurable impacts, aligned, and derived from the module learning outcomes.
This will be evidenced through a written report as well as a practice-based activity.
As part of your study, evaluation, and assessment, indicative content will include:
Note: All components of the assignment are to be completed individually.
To be submitted via MyBeckett by 24th October 2025 (Week 5) at 12:00
The project plan will define your agreed research and report objectives supported by a subject-specific advisor. As your study programme is self-directed through negotiated study, you will create an initial outline of your proposed research/practice activities based on the themed and identified ‘Report’ (Assessment 2). The report should outline and draw focus on how your practice can enhance an existing industry & transform/disrupt current processes within a specialised professional role or organisation.
Personal/individual creative interests, professional practice, or research agenda/critical enquiry will define your topic. Your tutor will assist you in finalising your report (Assessment 2) to the agreed project objectives.

Feedback is a form of communication that informs you and your tutor of where you are in your learning and what you need to do to improve. Effective feedback clearly tells you what you have done well, and how you can improve in a fashion that is timely, honest, and relevant to you. In this module, we aim to provide prompt feedback in several ways:
You will receive immediate, formative feedback on several occasions during your module- e.g., your tutors will provide feedback in the timetabled tutorial sessions. This feedback is usually verbal.
You may receive generic feedback on assignments before submitting the assignment or within 3 weeks of submitting the assignment.
This will support you in developing your learning. Alternatively, you will receive individual feedback on your work within 4 weeks of submitting the work. This feedback will be structured and allow you to see how you have performed against the learning objectives and set you specific targets for improvement.
The learning activities included in the module contain tasks to develop your understanding and confidence in practice-based research methodologies; you will regularly receive formative feedback in your tutorial sessions.
Each component will receive a small amount of written feedback with the marks you have gained (summative assessment). These results can be discussed with your module tutor/supervisor(s) to gain further feedback.
You will have the opportunity to provide feedback formally at the end of your module. These comments will be reviewed by your Course Director and course team, and some may be considered at your annual course enhancement meeting. Your Student Representative will attend this and take your views to this meeting for discussion.

The usual University penalties apply for a late submission.
This is an individual assessment. Submission of an assessment indicates that you, as a student, have completed the assessment yourself, and the work of others has been fully acknowledged and referenced.
By submitting this assessed work, you are declaring that you are fit to submit, and you will therefore not normally be eligible to submit a request for mitigation for this work.
If your result for this assessment is recorded as ‘non-submission’ or your mark for this assessment and for the whole module is below 50%, you will have the opportunity to take reassessment with a submission date of 12:00 on Wednesday, 8th July 2026, and your mark capped at 40% (see reassessment information below). If you are granted a deferral through the mitigation process, you may complete the reassessment with a full range of marks available.
If you fail to attend the presentation at the scheduled date and time without agreed mitigation, you will be given one further opportunity to present your work (incurring a 5% late penalty) at a time scheduled by the module team. If you miss this second opportunity, your result will be recorded as Non-Submission. If your result is recorded as Non-Submission or your mark for this assessment and for the whole module is below 40%, you will have the opportunity to take reassessment and your mark capped at 40% (see Reassessment information below). If you are granted a deferral through the mitigation process, you may submit for the reassessment with a full range of marks available.
For further information, please refer to your Course Handbook or University Assessment Regulations.

Students should submit a revised portfolio where the previous failed submission was indicated as deficient. This is not required to be ‘new’ or an original project/portfolio, but must address and make good where activities failed to meet the assessment criteria set. Your supervisor will negotiate the requirements and benchmark for your refined submission before reassessment.

You must be able to explain and justify all elements of the submitted work. If you are unable to do so for certain elements of your work, no marks will be given for those elements.
You must submit your work through MyBeckett using the correct link set up by the tutor.
It is your responsibility to ensure that file uploads to MyBeckett have been successful. You can check this after uploading by downloading the file(s) from MyBeckett and checking that these downloads are correct and complete.
