The purpose of this assessment is to understand the importance of community health programming and the organisations that work to improve the overall quality of life in disadvantaged and low-socioeconomic communities. This is one assessment completed in two components: Students will:
The Poster (800 words)
Your poster should be structured into four major sections, each clearly outlining the organisation’s structure, its public health activities and how these align with professional standards, a SWOT analysis, as well recommendations. The poster is intended for visual presentation, not for detailed written analysis, so avoid including full essays or lengthy paragraphs. Instead, focus on:
Remember, your poster should communicate key information at a glance and effectively engage the intended audience.
You are required to identify at least three programs, interventions, campaigns, or activities sponsored or delivered by the organisation you are studying. For each activity, you must:
o What other services are offered?
o What is/was the community health message, and what channel(s) of communication were used?
o What was the goal of the activity?
o Who is/was the target audience of the activity?
o How long did each program last? Are they sustainable?
o Provide data where needed to show successes, shortfalls,
Conduct a SWOT analysis to take a closer look at the organisation’s internal resources and advantages, as well as the external barriers and challenges it faces. This structured approach will help you evaluate the organisation’s capacity to deliver effective public health outcomes and identify areas for strategic improvement.
Strengths
o Describe the organisation’s advantages and assets. Discuss any partnerships, staff roles, marketing strategies, and overall initiatives that you deem a strength and discuss in detail the reasons why and how.
• Weaknesses
o What challenges and barriers do the organisation face? Identify and discuss in detail. Are there funding issues, staffing, program specific, etc?
Opportunities
o What factors can the organisation leverage for improvement or advancement? Partnerships, funding, participation, etc.?
• Threats
o What factors hinder the success and sustainability of the program? Finances, location, staffing, etc?
o Based on what you have learned about the organisation, provide a list of appropriate recommendations that either promote continuous organisational effort or improve programming and quality of life for participants. Consider how they might increase capacity and stakeholder engagement as well as funding.
Logic Model (700 words)
• Identify a Public Health Problem
o Select one specific issue or challenge currently faced by the organisation. This could relate to service delivery, community engagement, resource allocation, or health outcomes.
• Develop a Goal for Improvement
o Based on the identified problem, formulate a clear and measurable goal aimed at improving, changing, increasing, or decreasing the issue as appropriate. Your goal should be realistic, time-bound, and aligned with public health priorities.
• Design a Logic Model
o Create a logic model to strengthen the organisation’s response to the issue and support achievement of your goal. Your logic model should include:
Inputs (resources, stakeholders, funding)
Activities (interventions, campaigns, services)
Outputs (direct results of activities)
Outcomes (short- and medium-term changes)
Impact (long-term public health improvements)
Literature Review/Background of the Issue (1000 words)
In this section, you are required to complete a literature review on the primary health issue targeted by the organisation you assessed. The review should provide a concise overview of current research, public health relevance, and key interventions related to the issue. For example, if your chosen organisation is Diabetes UK, your literature review should focus on diabetes, including its prevalence, risk factors, public health impact, and evidence-based strategies for prevention and management.
Your literature review should:
Summarise recent and relevant academic sources.
Highlight the significance of the health issue within the UK context.
• Connect the issue to public health practice and policy.
Support your understanding of the organisation’s role in addressing the issue.
Reflection (500 words)
Section 1: Critical Analysis
Critique the effectiveness of the message and the organisation based on what you have learned in this course. Is the organisation conducting public health activities based on the UKPHR Areas of Responsibility and Standards? Are the members/employees culturally competent? What works well? What could be done differently? Since this is a community organisation, did the activities include actual community members? How was the response, and why? Also, any other relevant observations. How does this influence your perception of community-based public health programming?
Section2: Reflection
Using Rolfe et al.’s Reflective Model to reflect on what you have learned from and about the organisation. Reflect on the insights gained regarding how the UKPHR Standards are operationalised within the organisation, including any observed practices, challenges, or strategies that support their implementation.
Your reflection should cover all three questions of Rolfe et al.’s Reflective Model: What?, So What?, and Now What?
