• Identify challenges which may be positive and/or negative for a health/social care organisation/institution of your choice by using strategic management tools – Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats analysis (SWOT analysis) and Political, Economic, Social and Technological analysis (PEST analysis).
• NOTE:  You are strongly recommended to use your own organisation / department for this assignment; not only will you be familiar with the organisation already but the analysis you carry out will provide further insights into your organisation. Remember the confidentiality requirements shown below.
• From the list of PEST and SWOT identified challenges, determine the major challenges facing your organisation and discuss them in detail, supporting your writing with appropriate references to literature.
• Propose strategies to meet these major challenges. Discuss and evaluate these strategies with reference to appropriate literature.
• Describe the leadership role management should play during the implementation of these proposed strategies in this organisation/institution.
• Ensure you respect confidentiality and anonymity and do not identify your place of work, any member of staff or service, either in the text or references.
• Use appropriate references, presenting these accurately using the Cite them right Harvard style.

Structure of the essay:

Note that this assignment is in an essay format and therefore abstracts, data, tables and figures would not normally be included. However, it is acceptable and common practice to present SWOT and PEST analyses in tabular form. If you choose to use tables, you are advised to limit their number and size.

Remember: the word content of tables and figures are excluded from the overall word count. It is suggested you keep the overall wordcount within tables to less than 500 words across ALL tables.
