This task provides you with opportunities to account for global perspectives, examine the business environments of a global firm, apply relevant theories and frameworks, evaluate strategies, recommend global strategy propositions, reflect on the process of group learning to develop a strategic internationalization plan and learn discipline-specific knowledge, systematic problem-solving, engage in teamwork, and global citizenship (ULO 1, ULO 2, ULO 3, ULO 4, GLO 1, GLO 5, GLO 7, and GLO 8). By completing this task, you will develop your skills in researching, understanding, applying, evaluating, and presenting information required of business professionals.
For this task, assume you are working as a consultant for the given organization, and you must engage in group discussion to prepare and submit a research report examining specific aspects of global strategy and international management in the organization.
The assignment case study access link and a PDF version is available on the unit site. The case for analysis is A Chilean Coffee Business deciding to do business in the United States of America. The assignment comprises of Part A- Report and Part B- Reflection based on your work as a consultant analysing the case.
This assignment is a written strategic internationalization report that you, acting as a consultant, will prepare for (case company: A Chilean Coffee Business deciding to do business in the United States of America ) as part of the firm's preparation for expansion in Florida, USA (given location).
In this assignment, you should assumethat the case company is NOT YET operating/doing business in the given location. This assignment will challenge your capability to recommend whether the relevant industry in a given location is one that the case company should exploit. If it is, be able to explain why and how.
This assignment is an opportunity for you to apply your knowledge of Global Strategy and International Management theories, concepts, models, frameworks, and analytical tools in the context of the given company. You will demonstrate your skills in a systematic analysis of the firm's global business environment and its plan for internationalization. You are expected to draw on our learning and teaching materials, the case company case, additional research, online academic journal articles, and research databases accessible through our Deakin library. In this assignment, you are expected to engage in research work to present a well-written report for the case company. In other words, you are expected to go beyond the primary documents (e.g., the case study) as far as necessary to present well-argued recommendations. Discuss with the teaching team for more suggestions on which resources to use in your research project. Your analysis should still draw on the topics covered in this unit. The research work will involve gathering secondary data (e.g., government rules, policy, investment climate, cultural attributes, etc.) to help you contextualize your application of relevant topics covered in this unit and applicable to the unique situation of the case company. Your task in this assignment is to work individually in conducting research that will inform your report (Part A) whilst incorporating your learning from group discussions (Part B). There are specific questions that you will need to answer that will guide you in your task. A template is provided below. The permitted word count is 2,000 words. A critical factor in your preparation of the report is that all sections must be cohesive and integrated. In other words, all sections should be consistent and should build on one another.
Please use Times New Roman or Calibri font, size 12, double space, and a 1-inch margin on all sides. If you cite any reference, the reference list is NOT counted in the maximum number of words. There is no minimum nor maximum number of references required. You are free to attach appendices (not included in the word count) to support your report. However, please use appendices sparingly and strategically because these will not be marked.
