MG5594 Assignment Objective  

The Individual Assignment has THREE parts with SIX questions, covering information and knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, and innovation. All questions should be completed and submitted by the stated deadline. The students are expected to work on different parts of their assignments throughout the module. 

MG5594 Individual Assignment Description

Part 1: Students prepare data cards on a topic, “How does technology/the internet affect what I know about management and business?”. This will be clarified in the Seminar.

Students should integrate the data card by providing (1) a description of the card, (2) an image of the card, and (3) answering the following three questions.

Part 1 Word limit 800/weight 35% of final mark:

1. Critically evaluate in what way the specific information on technology or internet sources influences your thinking about management and business. What types of sources did you use? How did you assess the reliability of this information?
2. Discuss the patterns you see across types of sources, types of information, types of reaction, and the ideas this information provokes in you about management and business
3. How does the process of creating knowledge from information for you compare to others in the class (based on your discussion in the lecture)?

Part 2: Academic source evaluation: Students are expected to integrate their learning from the assigned academic article on knowledge sharing by providing answers to the following:

Part 2 Word limit 1000 (excluding references)/weight 35% of final mark:

4. Describe the key learning points in the Gibson & Gibbs (2006) article on how to overcome the challenges of working in a virtual team. (350 words)

5. Imagine you had to create a knowledge repository on the topic “How technology/the internet affects what I know about management and business?” with everyone in the class. How would you do it? Critically discuss the key tasks involved. Support your answer with references from relevant reading. (650 words, not including at least 5 references to sources)

Part 3: Innovative culture and Knowledge systems

Part 3 Word limit 700 (excluding references)/weight 30% of final mark:

6. Building on what you learned in Seminar 1 about innovative company culture in theory and practice (LEGO), critically discuss how innovative ideas in a company are connected to each of the following:

  • new knowledge external to the organisation,
  • shared knowledge within the organisation,
  • leadership

Support your answer with references from relevant readings (at least 5 references to academic sources)

At least 10 references to both academic and online sources should be cited in the text and in a list of references at the end of the assignment.
 
MG5594 Submission Instructions

The Assignment must be submitted electronically as ONE document via the University’s WISEflow system. The required file format for this is Adobe PDF. Your student ID number must be used as the file name (e.g. 0123456, pdf). You must ensure that you upload your file in the correct format and use the College’s electronic coursework coversheet. Please note that submissions of ‘.pages / .docx etc’ documents will not be accepted and must be converted to the approved format.

  • Clarity of objectives and degree of meeting these.
  • Critical understanding and integration of relevant material – concepts, theory, and frameworks.
  • Creativity and evidence of learning.
  • Understanding of the implications and limitations of the work.
  • Quality of presentation  – including data visualisation, referencing, and structure.
