MEC681 Course Outcomes (CO) 

• CO2Explain the mechanical properties of engineering materials under various service conditions. [PO2, LO3, SS1]{C2}(WK4/WP1/WP4) 
• CO3: Evaluate complex engineering problems related to the failure analysis and the microscopic characteristics of materials. [PO4, LO3, SS1]{C5} (WK8/WP1/WP3)
• CO4 Communicate through technical writing or presentation on selected engineering materials. [PO9, LO4, SS2]{A5} (EA1)
• PO2 Problem Analysis - Identify, formulate, conduct research, literature and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences (WK1 to WK4)
• PO4Investigation - Conduct investigation of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge (WK8) and research methods, including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
• PO9Communication - Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions. 

Description 

Choose ONE daily used product and state the material of the product. Write a short report (3 pages maximum, including figure and tables). 

The report must observe the following format: 

• Abstract (limited to 200 words)
• Table of Contents: Include section titles and page numbers.
• Introduction: Briefly explain the product, its application and the material of the product.
• Content:
• a)Physical and mechanical properties under various service conditions (literature review)
• b)Failure prediction and solution to avoid/improve the problem c
• )Potential material as a choice for the product
• Conclusion and recommendation
• References: Including books, journals, patents, etc. Internet source only limited to only 2.
