M34415 Assessment Description (short):

In this assessment learners will identify and analyse a UK or non-Uk based Human resources problem in a company. They will then conduct a strategic analysis to ascertain a strategic match/mismatch and impact on strategic implementation, undermining the strategic position and initiatives of the company. They will then develop a strategic solution effectively addresses the HR problem and develop a new HR strategy for the company. They will write
their essay based on this coursework.

LO2  Appraise strategic issues at business & corporate levels using appropriate frameworks &
evidence to identify, develop & recommend strategic options.
LO3  Propose appropriate strategies for issue resolution & the strategic changes needed for their implementation.

M34415 Assessment Task:

Introduction

In this assessment learners will identify and analyse a UK or non-Uk based Human resources problem in a company. They will then conduct a strategic analysis to ascertain a strategic match/mismatch and impact on strategic implementation, undermining the strategic position and initiatives of the company. They will then develop a strategic solution effectively addresses the HR problem and develop a new HR strategy for the company. They will write their essay based on this coursework.

Key Tasks

Part A (Problem Identification and Defining the Problem)

  • Identify a non-UK or a UK-based human resource problem in a company. This problem could be identified using personal experience or secondary data sources.
  • If, through personal experience, then the encounter should be clearly outlined, the length of engagement, and, period of engagement. The names and identities can be anonymized. If through personal experiences of an acquaintance, then their detailed narratives must be recorded.
  • If through secondary data, then all possible web links of the news must be shared.
  • Example of a UK-based HR problem - McDonald's workers make fresh harassment claims
  • Example of a non-UK-based HR problem - CBN faces N30bn lawsuit from disengaged staff over mass layoffs

Part B (Background research and strategic position of the company)

You will conduct background research about the company whose human resource problem you have identified. You will collect all possible information about that company, particularly their strategic position. Their corporate strategy, business strategy, and functional strategies, including HR strategy.

Part C (Analyse Strategy match/mismatch and impact on strategy implementation)

Conduct macro and micro environmental analysis and comment on the strategic position of the company. How the HR problems in the company are linked to the poor strategy, or how these problems are undermining the strategic position and initiatives of the company.

Part D (Strategic Solution)

Based on the above analysis, design a strategic solution for the company –

Consider the following pointers –

Design an HR strategy for the company. Should the company redesign the HR strategy? How will this strategy help? How should such a strategy be implemented? What will be the role of leadership, and what changes will need to be made and managed to execute the new strategy?
How will the new HR strategy support the other functional strategies, business, and corporate strategies?
