This assignment is worth 20% of the final mark for LOG304  Procurement and Supply Management in the Digital Era.  

The cut-off date for this assignment is 7 March 2025, 2355hrs.

This is a group-based assignment. You should form a group of 4 members from your seminar group. Each group is required to upload a report and presentation slides via your respective seminar group site in Canvas. Please elect a group leader. The responsibility of the group leader is to upload the presentation on behalf of the group.   

It is important for each group member to contribute substantially to the final submitted work. All group members are equally responsible for the entire submitted assignment. If you feel that the work distribution is inequitable to either yourself or your group mates, please highlight this to your instructor as soon as possible. Your instructor will then investigate and decide on any action that needs to be taken. All group members don't need to be awarded the same mark.  

Note to Students:  

Compose your report using Microsoft Office Word, and save it either as .doc or .docx (preferred).  

Compose your presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint or other similar presentation software, and save it as .ppt or .pdf formats.  

You are to include the following particulars in your submission: Course Code, Title of the GBA, SUSS PI No., Your Team and Group Members' Name and Submission Date.  

Your GBA team will be scheduled for a 15-minute presentation to address the GBA questions and to justify your findings and reasoning. 

Grading of GBA Submissions  

Marks awarded to your assignment are based on the following guidelines

Question 1  

ATA’s business with Dyson grew from the supply of tooling (in 2009), to the supply of goods and services (in 2013), and to contract manufacturing (in 2020). Dyson accounts for almost eighty (80%) of ATA’s total revenue.  

What is Dyson’s likely “procurement positioning” of ATA as a supplier? Hint: Which quadrant of Kraljic’s portfolio matrix would ATA be categorised as? State your reasons.  

Conversely, what is Dyson’s position as ATA’s customer? State your reasons.  

Hence, determine the appropriate procurement strategy for this combination. (20 marks)   

Question 2  

Regular supplier audit and evaluation/appraisal is part and parcel of outsourcing supplier management.   

Dyson had undertaken “multiple prior audits it said had not found any issues involved in its supply chain.

From the article above, what is your view on the "foreign labour exploitation" and “debt bondage” issues? Hint: Are these recent developments?  

Examine:  

• Dyson’s execution of the supplier audit and evaluation/appraisal process  
• The likely reasons why Dyson’s multiple prior audits (throughout the year) had not uncovered any lapses and non-compliance issues. State your assumptions, if any.  (15 marks)   

Question 3  

Recognise the areas of improvement in Dyson’s supplier evaluation and audit processes.  Propose how Dyson can address these shortcomings to improve the supplier audit process. (15 marks)

Question 4  

"Despite intense engagement over the past six weeks, we have not seen sufficient progress and have already removed some production lines".  

“We (Dyson) have now terminated our relationship with six months' of contractual notice.”  

The above statements indicate that Dyson was engaging with ATA to rectify the “forced labour” issues. However, remedial actions were not sufficient, or the situation was beyond salvage.  

(a) Analyse  how ATA manages the “Triple Bottom Line” of its business. State your assumptions. (10 marks)  

(b) What is the impact of this termination on both ATA & Dyson’s internal and external stakeholders? List out the internal and external stakeholders of both parties and the resulting impact of this disclosure and business termination. (20 marks)
