As part of the formal assessment for the programme you are required to submit an English Legal System and Skills assignment. Please refer to your Student Handbook for full details of the programme assessment scheme and general information on preparing and submitting assignments.
After completing the module, you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the English Legal System and the key sources of law.
2. Assess the main legal principles which underpin the English Legal System and how these principles affect the evolution of English Law.
3. Identify and use legal research material appropriately.
4. Develop a range of skills needed for the academic study of law and employability. Graduate attribute: Lifelong learning
5. Identify areas for personal or professional development and establish ways to achieve these goals.
Your assignment should include: a title page containing your student number, the module name, the submission deadline and the exact word count of your submitted document; the appendices if relevant; and a reference list (see referencing section for more information).You should address all the elements of the assignment task listed below. Please note that tutors will use the assessment criteria set out below in assessing your work.
You must not include your name in your submission because Arden University operates anonymous marking, which means that markers should not be aware of the identity of the student. However, please do not forget to include your STU number.
This assessment will require students to apply their understanding of the English Legal System and demonstrate the skills that they have been developing throughout the module including research and analytical skills. In addition, students will be asked to reflect on their initial experience.
This assessment consists of three questions, you must answer all three questions.
Consider whether statutory interpretation and judicial precedent provide judges with the power to ignore the intention of Parliament.
Your answer should include appropriate case law and Acts of Parliament.
Prepare a short case note for the case Kostel UK Ltd v Dunkley and others [2021]
UKSC 47 [2022] 2 All ER 607.
Reflective statement.
Prepare a reflective statement which evaluates your personal development whilst participating in this module. You should identify areas for improvement as well as how you intend to achieve this.
