Assessed Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate knowledge of User Experience (UX) and ethical consideration in interactive digital design. This could include web and/ or interactive products.

2. Apply business analysis in communications, client requirements, planning, design, and development for interactive digital client-based solutions. Reflect on a finished project.

4. Apply principles and elements of design to develop digital solutions, emphasising UX and User Interface (UI) using appropriate tools and techniques.

Basic Information About the Assessment

Purpose

The purpose of this assessment is to apply design principles to a brief and produce a website using a CMS tool (Wix). By the end of this assessment, you should know the basics of designing a website, have produced a website, and know how to use a CMS tool to achieve it. You should have acquired some understanding of design principles for UI and UX and been able to put this in practice. You should feel confident about being able to make a website in the future. This assessment is the practical application of the theoretical knowledge you have acquired in this course. This assessment is designed to enable you to achieve the learning outcomes specified above.

The Assessment

This is a NEW design for a NEW website.

Your Design.

You are required to design a small multipage website.

The website must have a Home page and a minimum of five more pages.

This makes at least six pages in total.

As noted above, it will have a landing (splash/home) and links which will allow the user to go to the other pages and return to the home page (using the home icon). This splash page needs to be created even if you choose a template where you have a navigation panel in the header of each webpage.

You will be using Wix to create the website and are expected to have a complete website created.

Before you start the design process, you are expected to follow the process outlined in your lectures (this is part of learning outcome two):

1. Review the brief presented in this assignment handout.

2. Work out what the requirements are for the website based on the brief. Some of the requirements may not be in the brief, or you may think of others that might be needed, or not needed. You will need to clarify them from yourtutor or by asking your colleagues for their ideas or opinions. This is a part of the requirements capturing exercise. Write down any questions you need to be answered to complete the list of requirements. Get your questions answered and record the answers to put in your document.

3. Source or otherwise find assets (images and text) for your website and note what they are and their sources for your report.

4.Make/update a sitemap and wireframes for ALL the webpages.

5. Review templates on Wix to identify which suits your website and develop your site accordingly.

You may go through the above steps several times, and this is a legitimate way of proceeding. It’s possible that even after designing everything, the design may change. You may wish to reflect that into your design documents. This is a common type of method used in developing projects where you go through the design and development process more than once.

So it could be that your steps 2 and 3 above can repeat throughout the development of the website. You don't need to do this, but quite often developing websites does mean going back over your designs, requirements and so on.

When it comes to documenting the requirements in the report, it is expected that you would only present the complete captured requirements (or the final version of the captured requirements and associated sitemaps and wireframes).

It is expected that you will document the process in your project diary, where you can show that you have gone through the steps several times.

All of the information you put in the report and on the website must be in your own words.

Research and rewrite! Do not copy and paste, please.

Where appropriate, you may use AI-sourced content to supplement your own words and content, but the majority of the written content should be your own!

Part of this is understanding and communicating the information in your unique way.

Assignment Brief

The topic for the website is Cultural Myths and Legends. The website would be designed to inform people about myths and legends that pertain to a particular culture. So, there is a bit of history here as well as how these may be celebrated in themodern day in that same culture.

For example, what are the myths or legends from a particular culture? Where do they come from? How are they passed on from generation to generation? How are they celebrated? Are there special ceremonies or events? How do people in the modernday keep these myths and legends alive?

These are just some of the things you might cover on your website. So that someone gets a real understanding of the myths or legends that are part of the culture you have chosen. This can be as broad or narrow as you like. There are many cultures, and often within a particular place or country. Your job is to bring to life some of the myths and legends associated with that culture.

You decide what the requirements are and what content you will put into your website.

You must also decide who your target audience and demographics are. Make your demographics and psychographics as detailed as possible.

The website must contain both text and graphics.

A good balance of text and graphics or images is required.

Remember that the internet is primarily a visual medium.

The first page should present to the users what it is about and what they can see on the website. Then, other pages should give more detailed information.

The website must have a splash/home page and at least five other pages (six pages in total – minimum).

You are required to present informative, interactive webpages that give information about the culture you have chosen to present.

Cover what, why, where, when and how

When creating the content for the website, Do Not rely upon links to external websites to provide the information.

The information must be on your website in your own words.

You can use images sourced from other places.

Ensure those images are of good quality and resolution.

You MUST put (This Site Was Created For Educational Purposes) in the footer of the website to guard against copyright infringement.

How do you fill in the report?

You must use the project report template provided and no other type of document.

Do not put your report at the end of this document.

Your submission will be rejected if it is not on the correct form.

Fill in the information under the headings of the report on the form, in your own words. Here is a guide below on what is needed in the report document.

Purpose Of the Website
(Learning outcome 2)

Write down what the purpose of the website is and who is it you want to aim the information on the website at. Why are you doing it? What’s the website for? In your ownwords.

Audience And Demographics

(Learning outcomes 1 and 2)

This is a very important part of the document. You need to state who the intended audience of this site is and what their demographics are. Pay attention to detail rather than being superficial. Typically, you would expect to cover age, where they live, what their interests are, what sort of education level, income level, other hobbies and so on. Build up a picture of who these people are because that will help you to focus your design.

Requirements

(Learning outcome 2)

Present a list of the requirements. Explaining what each one is and why you’ve included it. How does it relate to your audience and demographic? IN YOUR OWNWORDS PLEASE!

How These Requirements Will Be Met

(Learning outcome 1, 2 and 4)

This means what information you are going to put on the website to meet each one of those requirements. A short paragraph about each would be good. Where are you going to get this information from? What search terms are you going to use, or have you used?

The point of this section is to show that you’ve thought about the CONTENT. It’s about the CONTENT and what that content is. How did you clarify those requirements? What questions did you ask? What were the answers? ALL OF THIS IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

Design Outline
(Learning outcomes 2 and 4)

In this section, you must include a SITE MAP and WIREFRAMES for the pages

Please try to give some detail in the wireframes as to what CONTENT those pages contain. Not just a load of boxes. The wireframe needs to show you’ve thought about what goes into the pages.

Try to do a decent job on the wireframes, which gives anyone a good idea of what is going to be on the website and where.

Project Notes

(Learning outcome 1,2 and 4)

This is an important section. It’s like a diary. Put down dates/times for each entry. Write down the important points about your choices. Why have you made the choices you made? Why did you choose the culture you’ve chosen? Do you have some connection to it? What did you already know about it? Then, it tells us what happened during the project. What did you do, what problems or issues came up, how did you resolve them? What choices did you make about the design – colours, layout, design rules you followed, and WHY? It’s your chance to show the process you followed. Makethis more or less. It’s a section of particular interest because it tells the story of your project.

Review

(Learning outcome 2)

Make sure you cover all these points. Don’t make this section too brief.

Equally important is for you to think about what you did. How did it go? What went well? Did you succeed in what you set out to do? Did you have anyone give youfeedback, what was it?

What is your own constructive feedback on your website?

What did you succeed in and what didn’t work out? What went well, what you could have improved upon and how? Also, what might you do differently next time?

What ethical considerations did you consider for the design of this website?

URL of the website

(Learning outcome 4)

A URL for the finished website in WIX that can be viewed on the web. This is your finished digital website product which you have produced to the brief above, and meets your requirements and design.

Marking Criteria

Your work will be assessed based on the presented report as well as the content and usability of the website.

This is an evidence-based marking assessed on whether the evidence is present or not.

No evidence of the section being answered, or not addressing what was required in the section, will gain a mark of zero.

Some evidence will mean partial marks awarded for that section. Full evidence will gain full marks for that section.

Total marks are out of a maximum of 100, and these are converted to 32% score.
