The third individual assignment for this module is on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The students are called to demonstrate their understanding of the special protection afforded by international law to persons with disabilities, including through the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Content and structure: Describe and analyse how persons with disabilities are protected in international human rights law, including (but not only) through the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Explain and illustrate the notion of “multiple discrimination” faced by persons with disabilities.
Consider what to include in your analysis and demonstrate a sound level of text synthesis. Essential information must be included in the body of your essay and will be counted in the word count.
Introduction: A concise summary and analysis of the definition of persons with disabilities.
Main body: Identify the needs for special protection of persons with disabilities and how international human rights law seeks to ensure that protection, in particular under the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Search related literature using a variety of sources, including relevant blog entries. Organise and structure your work so that the reader can follow the line of argument, making use of linking words to link the paragraphs.
Conclusions: The conclusion section is an integral part of every project. Writing a good concluding paragraph can be challenging. After the analysis of the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, we conclude, including how legal protection may evolve in the future.
Implications: Demonstrate what you have learnt from your assignment by addressing the central issue and adequately summarising the findings of your research. The following should be noted for this part of the assessment:
Tomar and S. K. Dwivedi, “Protection of Human Rights of Women from Ancient to Modern Era: Insufficiency in Indian Legislation”.
K. Pandey, “Protection of Human Rights of Disabled Women”,
Usanova and T. Gunina, “Realisation of the Rights of Children with Disabilities to Education in Russia, USA and China”,
Arimoro, “Are They Not Nigerians? The Obligation of the State to End Discriminatory Practices against Persons with Disabilities”,
