HRM4022/4822 Assignment Briefing & Report Structure
Feedback on Formative Assessment: sessions 13 & 15
Consists of a leadership report draft that addresses the selected leadership challenges faced by a real-world organisation. The proposal will explore how these issues are interconnected and the effect on the organisation's overall effectiveness. The formative assessment and feedback will support students' preparation for the summative assessment submission.
Note: Formative and Summative assessments are on the same topic!
Summative Assessment: Due Friday October 24th @ 5:00pm
Select an organisation of your choice that has experienced leadership challenges.
- Explore the context of leadership.
- Conduct an analysis of the leader’s style(s):
- Applying the leadership theories and concepts covered in this module, critically evaluate the link between the leadership style(s), the situation, and the specific style’s(s) impact on the organisation’s overall effectiveness.
- Drawing from the range of topics covered in this module, critically evaluate how the leader(s) have addressed the challenges.
- Propose solutions for the organisation’s leadership challenges.

HRM4022/4822 Assessment Guidelines
- Formative Assessment: Please bring your draft to the seminar during sessions 13 and 15.
- Summative Assessment on Friday October 24th @ 5:00 pm: Submitting closer to 5:00 pm traffic in the system long time to
receive an originality report, or no report no chance to make changes)
- Electronic submission on Turnitin (dangers of plagiarism & its consequences)
- Similarity rate should be lower than 20%. However, you MUST always check the similarity report. Please upload in advance to
check your similarity report. You can then make changes if needed and re-submit your report.
- Markers see the Turnitin report and sources of your material!
- Accurately reference your work (in-text citations AND bibliography); Use Harvard Style referencing cite them right
- Minimum of 15 sources- Must use academic sources when discussing theoretical concepts.
- There will be a short sample report on a different topic on our page!
Assessment Guidelines
- 2,500 words (+/-10%); Deviation NOT accepted
- Bibliography & appendices NOT included in the word count
- Use font ‘Times New Roman’ or ‘Arial’, Size 12, line spacing 1.5, justified alignment
- Check for grammar and spelling before submission
- If you fail to answer the question in your report, you will fail the entire report
Suggested Structure
- TITLE PAGE (Include the question you have chosen and the name of your seminar tutor, please do not include any names or student numbers. Your report will be
anonymously marked).
- Executive summary (approx. 100 words): This is a short summary of the report that includes the answer to the question
- TABLE OF CONTENTS (approx. 100 words): The Word software can automatically generate this for you once you are done writing your report
- 1. INTRODUCTION (approx. 100 words)
- Best to always start with a very engaging sentence! And yes, if you are using material that needs citations, you should have in-text citations in the introduction. Your
introduction must clearly explain how the report answers the questions - indicating the structure and providing clear signposting. For example, you can say: “This
report aims to answer the question by first defining corporate social responsibility (CSR). Second, it will highlight the current trends in CSR. Third, …)”
- (Note: the following sections are the MAIN BODY OF THE REPROT and constitute majority of your grade)
- 2. Select an organisation of your choice that has experienced leadership challenges (approx. 500 words)
– 2.1. Provide the background of the organisation
– 2.2. What are the internal and external contributors to these leadership challenges? (e.g. globalisation, ethical responsibility, internal resistance to
change…)
- 3.0. Explore the context of leadership and conduct an analysis of the leader’s style(s) (approx. 800 words)
– 3.1. Applying the leadership theories and concepts covered in this module, assess the link between the leadership style(s), the situation, and the specific style’s(s) impact on the organisation’s overall effectiveness.
– 3.2. Critically evaluate the effectiveness of the leader’s style(s) in the specific context(s) discussed above (must include citations when critiquing).
- 4.0. Drawing from the range of topics covered in this module (e.g., ethical leadership, communication, inclusion, motivation), critically evaluate how the leader(s) have addressed the challenges. (can use academic AND non-academic sources here; MUST Provide evidence/examples from the company to
support your argument) (approx. 500 words).
- 5.0 Propose creative solutions for the organisation’s leadership challenges (approx. 300 words)
- 6.0. CONCLUSION (approx. 100 words): A short summary of your answer; always avoid introducing new ideas in the conclusion
- REFERENCES: Must be in Harvard style and listed in alphabetical order; References are NOT included the word count; Please use citetherightonline.com)
