HR5040 ASSESSMENT ONE BRIEF

Weighting (70%) of the overall module mark

Summary: Individual Portfolio - Real-Life Business Scenario.

This assessment aims to evaluate your professional growth and development through practical application and demonstration of knowledge and skills in a real-life business scenario. The portfolio consists of three main components: Work Experience, Professional Qualifications, and Career Development Pathway. Each component contributes to your final grade.

Submission Guidelines:

Include a written report that incorporates the steps outlined above. Make sure to format your portfolio professionally and provide clear and concise explanations. Your portfolio should demonstrate your ability to analyse job requirements, assess your own qualifications, and set actionable goals for professional growth.

Submission procedure: Electronic, via Turnitin

Learning outcomes to be covered for this assessment are 1-7 & 10 of the module.

1. Grasp new technical facts, business principles and relevant work theory (DP).
2. Understand the organisation of the work environment and its wider impact (CI).
3. Identify a problem of industrial or commercial significance (EE).
4. Determine what information is relevant for business analysis and decision-making (COI).
5. Solve complex problems and make decisions involving the evaluation of conflicting arguments to arrive at a considered conclusion (COI).
6. Use information and knowledge effectively including collecting, evaluating, synthesising, and presenting business information in a manner appropriate to the issues being considered (DP).
7. Develop solutions to problems that arise in the organisation or in the course of work (SEI).
8. Apply knowledge of chosen sector/profession/industry to career planning (IC, EE, COI,DP).

Work Experience (30%):

In this component, you are required to provide evidence of employment, current or previous. If you are not in current employment, you can either use previous employment or contact your tutor who will assign you a job title, description and role.

In your portfolio you need to provide:

1.Full job description, role, responsibilities associated with the job specification. Stating start date, employer name and details. You need to discuss the information provided and not simply add images or screenshots.

2.Provide evidence of employment such as contract or any other form of evidence even if you are working on a (Zero hour) contract. If this is a hypothetical job assigned by your tutor, you do not need to provide a contract. However, in either cases, if you are in actual job or otherwise make sure you discuss:

1. Job role, description and specification.
2. The difference between job description, job role, and job specification.
3. Briefly discuss contract law and data protection law in the UK.
4. If you are unable to provide the contract, you can note the reason and include any laws that you may be in breach of should you provide the contract.

Guide note: make sure you define, reference (cite), give examples and blend everything together in a logical and concise discussion. i.e., use DRED.

Professional Qualifications and Additional Supplements:

Provide supplementary materials that enhance your portfolio in the form of appendixes.

• Provide evidence of the quiz you completed during lecture. “My learning style” and “My Creativity Style”.
• Include your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and make sure you briefly discuss.
• Optional Extras: You may also include other certificates of workshop or conference attendance, and evidence of participation in mock assessment canters, interviews, or online psychometric test practice. You may also include copies of emails or certificates of appreciation to your work and achievements at work from your employer.
