  • Give examples of communication and staff structures that are most effective. (Refer to: Staff Management)
  • Identify the main types of control and how they can be used appropriately. (Refer to: Control Systems in Hotels) 

Question 1

Understanding how a hotel operates is essential for anyone pursuing a career in operations management. For this task, you must contact a manager or senior staff member at a local hotel. You may do this in person, by phone, or via email.

Introduce yourself as a student and explain that you are gathering information to better understand hotel operations as part of your course. During your conversation, ask about key policies such as the hotel's customer check- in and check-out process, how customer enquiries are managed, and any other relevant structured procedures covered in your studies.

Please complete the following sections based on the information you gather: 

  • Outline the Establishment - Briefly describe the hotel, including its name, location, type, and size (30-50 words). 
  • Describe the structured policies the hotel follows for checking guests in and out (80-100 words). Customer Enquiry Management 
  • Explain the structured policies used to handle customer enquiries (80-100 words). Other Relevant Structured Policy 
  • Identify and explain one other structured policy mentioned during your conversation that relates to topics studied in this course (80-100 words).
