HNN318 Care of the Older Person Assessment Task 1 - Case Study

HNN318 Assignment Task: 

In this task you are required to interview an older person (65+ years or 50+ years if Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander). The interview will aim to explore the normal physiological changes experiences by the older people (ULO1) to analyse the physical, psychological and sociological changes that could increase their health risks (ULO2).

HNN318 Assignment Instructions: 

(Part A) Interview (500 equivalent) 

1. Inviting the Interviewee and gaining consent: 

• Invite an older person you know (65yr+ or 50yr+ if Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander) to participate in an interview. 
• Gain written consent using the consent form below. The consent form explains the purpose of the interview, the voluntary nature of their participation,confidentiality protocols, and that their interview will be recorded and reviewed by Deakin University staff for academic purposes only. 
• The consent form must be signed before conducting the interview. 
• Submit the signed consent form with the final assignment. 

2. Interview Preparation 

• Interview question preparation will be undertaken as a seminar activity in week 1. 

3. Interview Process: 

• It is anticipated that the interview may take between 10 to 15 minutes. 
• Please ensure the questions you are asking are appropriate and relevant to the required questions in the written case study. 
• Record the interview (audio or audiovisual which can be online or face to face).

(Part B) Case Study (1500 words): 

Introduction: 

Q1. Introduce your interviewee by including the following information as dot points only: 

• Age
• Cultural Background 
• Place of residency (for example own home, retirement village, RACF) 
• Employment history 
• Do they live with any one and/or have external support from family and/or community services. Body Using evidence from academic literature answer the following questions: 

Q2 Identify and describe four age related changes or expected changes that have occurred during aging for your interviewee. Discuss the physiology of these changes in relation to the interviewees'experience. 

Q3. Based on the interview identify and discuss how ageism as a psychological risk factor currently or potentially impacts the interviewee's quality of life. Provide one example from your interviewee. Use evidence from academic literature to support your answer. 

Q4. Based on the interview, identify and describe how social connections (as a sociological risk factor) currently or potentially contributes to social isolation in the older person. Provide one example from your interviewee. Include an explanation of why social isolation has a negative impact on older people as supported by academic literature.
