FST7008 Assignment Brief 

Regarding an organisation you work for, or one with which you are familiar, select three (3) different hazards which pose a significant threat to workers at an operational level, for example, hazardous substances, fire, mechanical hazards, etc.

For each of the identified hazards, complete and provide a suitable and sufficient safety, health or well-being risk assessment form. The risk assessment MUST meet all relevant legislative and/or sector guidance requirements. Sources used for each risk assessment must be cited in a list at the end of each risk assessment.

You are then required to write a professional report (suitable for presentation to a Board of Directors), critiquing the methodological approaches used to complete the risk assessments.

Your report should include:

• A brief overview of the organisation and rationale for the selection of the three (3) hazards

1. Rationale for selection of the 3 hazards, refer to 2025 Statistical Trends and Regulatory Insights in WAH (Singapore) & PDF Doc on Workplace and Health Report January- June 2025 National Statistics.

• Critical evaluation of the factors that influenced the selection, design, development and implementation of the risk assessments. (See RA on WAH, Vehicular Hazard and struck by falling object   attachments)

1. Critically evaluate each factor/component: Its design, development and implementation separately. Use semi-quantitative and support using peer reviewed journals. Critiquing the methodological approaches used to complete the risk assessment (See Appendix 1) 5X5 Matrix 

• Critical evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen approach used in each risk assessment.
• Recommendations on how risk assessments can be improved

The three (3) risk assessments and any supporting documents should be added as an appendix to your report.

The report should be written in Arial 12-point text with 1.5 spacing between lines (Line spacing in tables can be spaced as appropriate).

Marking Criteria

1. Introduction (5%)

3. Critically evaluate the theoretical principles and practical application of risk assessment, risk mitigation and risk management. (25%)

• Critically evaluate the theoretical principles and practical application of risk assessment.
• Critically evaluate the theoretical principles and practical application of risk mitigation.
• Critically evaluate the theoretical principles and practical application of risk management. (Appendix 2)

4. Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of risk assessment procedures in a practical, theoretical and legislative context. (25%)

• Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the risk assessment procedure in practice.
• Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the risk assessment procedure in theory.
• Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the risk assessment procedure in the legislative context.  

5. Recommendations on how risk assessments can be improved. (15%)
