Learning Outcome to fulfil

  1. Develop your knowledge, understanding, and practical experience in illustrating engineering ideas through Computer Aided Design (CAD). This includes proficiency in creating sketches, 3D drawings or multi-view projections such as side elevations and cross-sectional views of products. You will accurately be representing design concepts in technical documentation.
  2. Apply advanced techniques in 3D CAD software to effectively communicate designs for manufacturing, fabrication, systems or assembly of components and products. You will gain proficiency in creating detailed engineering drawings with proper dimensioning, to lerancing, and annotations, ensuring clear communication of design intent for manufacturing.
  3. Understand the advanced visualisation, animation and rendering techniques in CAD, creating realistic 3D models and renderings of components and products. You will analyse visual representations to improve design communication, considering user experience and market appeal.
  4. Develop the ability to design and document engineering components and assemblies according to various engineering standards and industry best practices. You will learn to apply and comply with relevant standards, ensuring that their designs meet the required specifications and quality benchmarks.

ENGR4-00540 Assessment Overview

topics and aligned tasks or exercises, recording all significant learning activities and outputs to provide evidence that you have achieved the module learning outcomes.

Your reflection should consider:

  • How you approached each task.
  • The CAD tools, modelling strategies, and design decisions you applied.
  • Challenges you encountered and how you overcame them.
  • How these activities have shaped your skills and evolved your understanding of engineering design.

You should also link your learning to real-world applications to demonstrate how CAD skills transfer to professional engineering contexts. This process is intended to help you develop as a self-directed learner—acknowledging what you know, identifying what you need to learn, and deciding how you will achieve that further learning. The report must be clearly structured, professionally written, and accessible to both technical and non-technical readers.

Detailed Assessment Guidance Report Structure & Content

Your report should include the following:

1.Introduction (80–100 words)

  • State the purpose of the report.
  • Briefly summarise the CAD topics and skills covered in the module.

2.Reflection on Learning, Skills Development & Professional Growth (550–600 words)

  • Illustrate key weekly tasks and exercises.
  • Explain your design approach, key CAD features used, and technical considerations.
  • Reflect on challenges faced and solutions applied.
  • Link learning to engineering standards (e.g., BS8888) and industry practice.
  • Discuss how your CAD skills and knowledge can be applied to real-world engineering problems, product development, or manufacturing scenarios.
  • Identify your strengths and areas for improvement as a CAD designer.
  • State the skills you wish to develop further and how you plan to do so.

3.Conclusion (80–100 words)

  • Summarise your main learning points.
  • State how the module has prepared you for future engineering design challenges.

Appendix (word counts are not included): You can also include additional relevant documents, pictures in the appendix if needed.
Guidance for Reflection

  • You may use a recognised reflective model such as Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle or Kolb’s Learning Cycle.
  • Support your points with labelled screenshots, figures, or tables to evidence your claims.
  • Keep writing focused and concise—avoid describing every small step; focus on the most significant learning points.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Assessments

Before approaching any assessment you should read the student guidance on the use of GenAI: Welcome to your generative AI guidance
This will ensure you are aware of the ethical, legal and learning aspects of using GenAI for your studies.
Each module’s assessments will require a different approach to the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). Your Module Lead has evaluated this module’s assessment(s) using the Artificial Intelligence Assessment Scale (AIAS).

ENGR4-00540 Computer Aided Engineering Assessment 2

Your Module Lead has evaluated this module’s assessments as requiring the following level of interaction with GenAI:

Assessment 2: Level 2

At CCCU all assessments require a declaration regarding the level of GenAI use.
Under CCCU’s Academic Integrity Policy unacknowledged inclusion of GenAI is considered academic misconduct. See
the Academic Integrity and Misconduct webpages for more information.
Please select the most appropriate statement from the choice below and insert it at the start of your work:
a.No GenAI was used in the preparation, planning or creation of this work. [AIAS Level 1]

b.I acknowledge the use of outputs from [insert the name of generative AI tool(s) used] in the learning, preparation, planning or proofreading of this work. [AIAS Level 2]

c.I acknowledge collaboration with [insert the name of generative AI tool(s) used] in this work, and the inclusion of outputs in modified form. [AIAS Level 3]
I acknowledge [insert the name of generative AI tool(s) used] as partner(s) in the creation of this work. [AIAS Levels 4 & 5]

Confidentiality/Anonymity Requirements

Please remember this assessment will be marked anonymously following the published guidance for students. Anonymous marking is an inclusive practice put in place to ensure a high-quality learning experience for all students. Anonymous marking provides reassurance to students that assessments are conducted fairly and impartially against conscious and unconscious bias Anonymous Marking Policy. To follow this process,

  • Please do not insert your name anywhere in the file/s you submit. Instead, you should insert your Student ID in ALL of the following:
-the Header of the document (or equivalent),
    -the Turnitin Submission Title box
-the filename of the document when you save the file, before you upload your work on Turnitin.
  • If you have a Student ID (which has 3 letters of your names and 8 digits), please insert only 8 digits. If you have SITS ID, simply insert it (9 digits, starting with 1).
  • PLEASE ensure you keep a copy of the digital receipt somewhere safe; you will be able to download a PDF version of it. You will no longer receive e-mail digital receipts from Turnitin.
