EGB101 Assessment 1 Task description

You will work in a team of Student Engineers to design and build a model of a bridge. Individually you will research the community and users of your design and provide a specification of the project design as per the requirements provided. You are expected to function as a professional engineering team, working within a fititious consultancy firm: Student Engineers Inc.

Learning outcomes measured 

In the context of a team member working on a new green bridge project in Brisbane City. You will conduct background research to expand your understanding of the project and work within a engineering team to develop a plan for the successful delivery of all project outcomes. By doing so, the assessment results in the following learning outcomes:

ULO2. Compose an engineering report of a design project including calculations and engineering drawings at an introduced level. 
ULO4. Critically reflect on engineering design process and professional practice, project management, cultural diversity, and ethics with regard to professional engineering practice at an introduced level. 

EGB101 Criteria for Assessment 1 

There are four criteria that will be used to assess your performance in this assessment: 

• Understanding of project context via your report. 
• Understanding and application of systems architecture via your report 
• Professional Communication via your report 
• Project Management - team 

The rubric that markers use to grade the assessment task is included and you should use it as a guide when working on the assessment task.

What you need to do 

1. In this assessment you will be provided with a project context and will research the community and users of the project. This initial scoping study will need to: Unpack the project brief to determine what the project involves Understand the location, local context, and community you are designing for Comment on how your design meets the criteria for a "green bridge" including key elements of sustainability Identify 4 potential users within this community and develop a service specification for the project or components within the project based upon their needs. 
2. Working within your team of Student Engineers you will: Develop a plan for the successful comple±on of this project. Engage with client to ensure they understand the progression of your project and any issues that arise Use project management techniques to ensure the successful functioning of your project team.
