Scenario:

A rural village in Bua has been severely impacted by a cyclone, leading to widespread damage to crops and food shortages. Emergency relief has been provided, including food rations and seed distribution to help rebuild food security. The food rations include:

✓ Rice, porridge, powdered milk, tinned fish, canned peas, canned fruit, noodles, dhal, flour, oil, and tea.

Additionally, seeds for fast-growing vegetables such as cabbage, tomatoes, eggplant, and beans have been distributed to encourage home gardening and long-term food security.

While these efforts provide temporary relief, the challenge remains to ensure both food security (access to enough food) and nutrition security (access to nutritious, balanced diets) for the community in the aftermath of the disaster.

• Sustainable food practices (e.g., home gardening, composting, food preservation techniques like drying or fermenting).
• Strategies to build climate resilience (e.g., crop diversification, drought-resistant crops, sustainable farming methods).
• If you choose a poster: Use clear visuals, culturally appropriate images, and minimal text to make the message easy to understand.
• If you choose a pamphlet: Organise information in a structured format (e.g., sections for food security, nutrition tips, and climate resilience). Include key visuals, but ensure the text is concise and informative.

2. Brief (500-1000 Words) - 10%

• Assess the nutritional adequacy of the provided food rations.
• Identify potential nutrient deficiencies and suggest ways to improve dietary diversity.
• Explain how seed distribution can contribute to long-term food and nutrition security.
• Discuss barriers the community may face in food recovery and propose practical solutions.
• Highlight traditional and scientific knowledge in promoting resilient, climate-smart food systems.
• Support your recommendations with evidence-based reasoning and local food system knowledge.
