DFOR5003 Assessment 1 Brief

The learning outcomes that are assessed by this coursework are:

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the core concepts and identify digital forensics requirements in an enterprise environment (Coursework + Presentation).

Recognise and employ the foundations of computer science within a digital forensics context (Coursework + Presentation).

Conceptual understanding that enables the student to evaluate all identified devices from a typical crime scene in an enterprise environment (Coursework + Presentation).

Demonstrate the ability to take appropriate decisions, make sound judgements, select appropriate tools and techniques for data acquisition and analysis (Coursework + Presentation).

Tasks to be Undertaken:

1. Prepare the relevant tools/kit that you will use to collect artefacts in an enterprise environment. This must be done before the acquisition lab.

2. During the acquisition lab, use the kit you prepared to collect and preserve artefacts from an enterprise environment, keeping detailed contemporaneous notes as you go.

3. After the acquisition lab, analyse the artefacts you collected, keeping detailed contemporaneous notes as you work through the analysis.

4. After task 3, create a detailed report that documents:

a. how you decided upon & setup your kit/tools before the practical task,
b. what you did during the acquisition (practical task),
c. what you collected, and how you preserved any & all artefacts during the practical task,
d. your analysis of what you collected and subsequently found, including the steps you took to do the analysis
You will use your detailed contemporaneous notes to write up your report.

5. Make sure you use sources and reference them appropriately in the reference section and the citations in the main body.

This must be done using the Harvard Cite Them Right format.

6. Please make sure you have Word set to use English United Kingdom.

7. Set the font for the whole document to Arial size 11.

8. Ensure there are page numbers in the middle at the bottom of each page.

9. Include your contemporaneous notes in the appendix of your report.

You will need to use your written contemporaneous notes to complete this task, as the report is based on what you did, when, and what you found from what you did. You should not, therefore, be using any AI tools to write it for you. Deliverables to be Submitted for Assessment:

A Word document of around 3,000 words that details how you set up your kit before the practical task, what you did during the acquisition (practical task), what you collected and how you preserved any artefacts during the practical task, then your analysis of what you collected.
