CVE30001 The scenario and project details 

Being the capital city in the state of Sarawak, Kuching emerged as one of the most vibrant cities in the region. It is the largest city on the island of Borneo and the fourth largest urban city in Malaysia. The city is considered one of the cleanest cities in Malaysia and was voted as one of the world's healthiest cities, recognized and awarded by both United Nations (UN) and World Health Organization (WHO) and by the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) in Suzhou, China. The city of Kuching commemorates the 14thanniversary of Healthy City Kuching that originally began in July 1994 when it joined the WHO's Healthy Cities project. Kuching city can be considered as pleasant even though the average daily temperature is around 32°C with an annual rainfall of around 4000mm and generally very high daily average humidity.

For the past 10 years, Kuching city is developing rapidly. New housing areas are created and developed in Kuching City, and its surrounding areas include Batu Kawa, Bau and Samarahan. A few new shopping complexes and high-rise buildings have also constructed and become the new landmarks of Kuching city.

CVE30001 Your Task 

The housing developer, Golden Country Sdn. Bhd., is appointing your engineering consultancy company, Swinburne Sarawak Civil & Structural Consulting Engineers Sdn. Bhd., to design the drainage system for their new housing development area located at Lot 1 and 2, Kuching Land district (refer to Fig. 1). There are in total 52 houses in Lot 1 and 32 houses in Lot 2 for these new housing areas.
