1. General Assessment Guidance
- Your summative assessment for this module is made up of this coursework submission which accounts for 100% of the marks
Please note late submissions will not be marked.
- You are required to submit all elements of your assessment via Turnitin online access. Only submissions made via the specified mode will be accepted and hard copies or any other digital form of submissions (like via email or pen drive etc.) will not be accepted.
- For coursework, the submission word limit is 3500 words. You must comply with the word count guidelines. You may submit LESS than 3500 words but not more. Word Count guidelines can be found on your programme home page and the coursework submission page.
- Do not put your name or contact details anywhere on your submission. You should only put your student registration number (SRN) which will ensure your submission is recognised in the marking process.
- A total of 100 marks are available for this module assessment, and you are required to achieve minimum 40% to pass this module.
- You are required to use only Harvard Referencing System in your submission. Any content which is already published by other author(s) and is not referenced will be considered as a case of plagiarism. Assessment Brief
In this assessment you need to demonstrate you meet the following module Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding of the key principles and processes of professional communication.
- Identify and apply various communication strategies for different types of business messages, including routine, positive, negative, and persuasive.
- Develop and refine interpersonal communication skills, including listening, nonverbal communication, and business etiquette.
- Manage and organise information efficiently for business writing and presentations. You are required to create slides with a professional appearance and supporting speaker notes.
Assessment Task
You are a consultant working for BPP. You have been asked to prepare training material for new IT Team Leaders.
The IT Team leaders’ role requires them to navigate several communication challenges, including:
Leading team meetings to set project goals, assign tasks, and discuss cybersecurity best practices.
Acting ethically when encouraging team members to enhance performance, collaborate effectively, and adopt new technologies or processes.
Communicating proactively by recognising good performance, informing staff of system updates or outages, and sharing critical IT announcements.
Proposing IT improvements by optimising workflows, generating performance reports, and giving
presentations to senior management.
Your task is to create a professional communication guide for IT Team Leaders, containing the sections below:
- The guide must identify typical challenges a manager may face, in the areas of Applying the Three-Step Writing Process and Communicating Persuasive Messages.
- The guide should explain the verbal, nonverbal or written communication skills which are required to overcome the challenges, identified above.
- In your guide, explain how the identified skills would be effective in resolving difficulties.
- You must produce the guide on Powerpoint slides with supporting speaker notes
Guidelines:
- You must submit your presentation in PDF format with notes
- There should be a minimum of 8 slides.
- Your guide should focus on the role of IT Team Leader, and include typical scenarios and challenges an IT Team Leader may face.
- Your guide must explain how to use a range of communication skills and technologies to resolve managerial challenges.
- Your slides must be clearly organised, use visual elements to support your ideas, and have a professional appearance.
- All slides must contain speaker notes (except the Title slide, Reference List and Appendices)
- You must use Harvard style to reference your sources, with citations on your slides and a Reference List at the end
