Part 1: Prepare a 15 min individual recorded video presentation based on PowerPoint.

Part 1 requires you to critically analyse and evaluate a selection (either 2 or 3 – not more) of business leaders of your choosing using the concepts that have been introduced in the module to determine what makes them an effective, ineffective or partially effective leader and what we can learn from them about business leadership.

Introduce the business leaders that will be analysed and evaluated. Give an overview of topics such as their career, examples of successes (and perhaps failures), personality, expertise, values, situational factors and any other information that provides insights that can be used to evaluate their leadership.

Drawing on the various concepts we covered in the module (for example, traits, behaviours, situational approach, charismatic and transformational leadership, ethical leadership, cross-cultural, the importance of leadership in times of change, and more) critically analyse and evaluate the chosen leaders.

Part 2: Write a 1,000 word reflective report on the presentation.

This part of the assignment requires you to reflect on the experience of producing the leadership presentation and demonstrate what you have learned and how it has influenced your thinking and future practice. 

What is a reflection paper?

A reflection paper is an essay that requires you to express, reflect on, analyse and synthesise your opinions about a topic. It is one of the few academic essays where you get to discuss your own opinions.

What are you reflecting on?

The leadership presentation. Think deeply about your experience completing the presentation and what you have learned. Consider questions such as:

  • How has the material affected me?
  • What particularly interested me? Why?
  • Are there unsolved questions or critical issues?
  • How will the material affect my future thinking?
  • What were the common themes?
  • Etc.

How should the report be structured?

It’s important not to simply present random thoughts. Find a model to guide and structure your reflections, for example, Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle, ERA (Experience, Reflection, Action) Cycle or Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle are popular, but you can use others. Using a model is likely to enable you to reflect more deeply and from different perspectives.
