Plagiarism and Collusion

Plagiarism and collusion are serious academic offences and are not acceptable in any form of a student’s work, including this TMA assignment.

  • Plagiarism occurs you use some other people’s ideas, words or pictures (including diagrams) without proper citation. All sources – including AI generated content – must be referenced using APA style. (APA guide:https://apastyle.apa.org/style–grammarguidelines/references/examples)
  • Collusion occurs when your work is not based on your own individual effort.

All submissions will be screened through a plagiarism detecting software. SUSS takes a strict stance on academic misconduct. Serious cases may typically result in the student being referred to SUSS Student Disciplinary Group. For other cases, significant marking penalties or expulsion from the course may be imposed. Refer to the Student Handbook for more details.

Responsible Use of Generative AI tools

While Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT can generate responses for you, it cannot understand the specific context of your assignment. This could result in irrelevant, inaccurate of incorrect content. If AI use is permitted:

  • you are responsible to check, validate the generated content and rephrase in your own words.
  • All ideas and content derived from AI tools must be appropriately attributed.

Important: Turnitin uses separate systems for AI and similarity detection. The Similarity Report visible to students shows only text matches against existing sources and does not indicate whether AI-generated content has been detected. A low similarity score does not mean that AI content was not used.

For guidance on responsible use of generative AI tools and citation, refer to SUSS Teaching and Learning Centre’s Academic Integrity course
