ART030-3 Critical and Creative Contexts Summative Assignment 1: Annotated Bibliography

Unit learning outcomes of ART030-3:

1. Define, investigate and analyse a contemporary debate in art and design practice, identifying and critically evaluating the relationship to your proposed area of research.
2. Synthesise and contextualise current critical debate in art and design, from a range of sources and research, to inform the written and visual outcome to a negotiated research question.

ART030-3 Assignment Brief

The assessment brief must be discussed during an in-class session with students within the first 2 weeks of the unit and be accompanied by a screen/podcast on the BREO shell explaining the assessment, the rubric and marking criteria. Please confirm the date this discussion is to take place:

What am I required to do in this assignment?

Consider the feedback that you have received for your first attempt and improve your annotated bibliography accordingly (your submission should present between 6-10 sources that surveys your field of research).

Your submission ought to evidence such improvements and developments by colour coding any changes and additions that you have made.

Your annotated bibliography should be no longer than 1 500 words.
You must introduce your essay topic in a short paragraph (about 50-100 words) at the beginning of your document.

ART030-3 Guidance:

1. You need to research, select and focus on highly relevant and reliable sources that are relevant to your essay topic and/or the case studies that you will analyse in your essay.
2. This include books (and/or book chapters from edited books), articles from research journals, articles from relevant magazines/newspapers, academic texts, etc. The use of online resources to find e-books, online journals, digital edition of academic publications, is encouraged if printed versions cannot be accessed or do not exist in such format. However, referencing other non-academic online sources is not recommended or should be clearly justified.
3. Once you have selected your relevant sources and have read them thoroughly, you need to write one paragraph per source (200-300 words each) and reference it (as the title of the paragraph) using the Harvard Referencing System (refer to the resource below as your guide to referencing)
