Course Details & Outcomes 

Course Description 

Architectural Design Studio 3 develops your understanding of the architectural design process through a residential project of moderate programmatic, spatial, material and environmental complexity and its integration with the urban context. You will investigate design strategies for thermal comfort and low-carbon living through an interpretive analysis of project site conditions, local climate and architectural precedents. You will learn how to articulate your ideas with a clear conceptual, schematic and developed design proposal.

Assessment Overview 

You will research, analyse, and question the site, its context, precedents of terrace house projects and design briefs for low carbon living, producing annotated graphic diagrams, drawings and study models. Grading will be done against assessment criteria, accompanied by written feedback. Verbal feedback will also be given in the studio.

Proposal

You will develop an articulated proposal for a low-carbon residential design based on an integrated understanding of site and program in an urban condition. Grading will be done against assessment criteria, accompanied by written feedback. Verbal feedback will also be given in the studio.

Attendance Requirements 

You are expected to be regular and punctual in attendance at all classes for the School of Built Environment courses in which you are enrolled. If and where individual courses have specific attendance requirements, these will be stated in the course outline. 

If you do not attend, engage, or participate in scheduled class activities, including lectures, tutorials, studios, labs, etc, you run the risk of failing a course. 

If illness or unexpected and beyond your control circumstances prevent you from completing a task on time, or substantially disturb your assessment performance, you should apply for Special Consideration as soon as practicable, accompanied by appropriate documentation.

This is an anonymous questionnaire in which you can register your level of satisfaction with the delivery, teaching, resources, assessment feedback and management of the course. In addition to this, you are welcome to make an appointment at any point throughout the term to meet with the course convener to discuss any issues you encounter within the course. These meetings are private and confidential.
