The individual case study assignment will give students an opportunity to bring together learning from different reward topics on the module in the context of a case study organisation highlighting reward issues. Students will be required to analyse the wider organisational and HR issues within the case study and design a reward plan to support this. This assessment will help students in evaluating challenges in Reward management to find ways of resolving them through the reward strategy plan using reward and motivation theory.
The perspective taken will be of a reward specialist who is tasked with undertaking a reward strategy for an organisation based on the reward topics explored in the module. The suggestion is therefore to build on the research undertaken for the specific topics covered in the Group Presentation as well as the reward topics covered in the second half of the module. It is also suggested therefore that one of the case studies used in the first coursework is used in the second coursework.
Consideration should be given to the relative importance of each of the reward topics in terms of prioritising the key reward tools in the reward strategy. It is recommended that between 4 and 6 reward topics are included in the report which should be prioritised from most to least important. Not all the reward topics will necessarily need to be included so an explanation of the choice of reward topics which are included should be provided. The main Reward topics include Job Evaluation, Pay Structures, Pay Progression, Variable Pay, Benefits, Gender Pay Gap and Minimum Wage. The Structure could be as follows:
Executive Summary – main findings from the reward strategy report (excluded from word count)
Introduction – background to choice of case study, the main organisational and HR issues and the reward topics being analysed from most to least important including the main reward and motivation theories being applied.
Critical Evaluation of Reward Practices.
Most Important Reward Topic with explanation of why this is the most important priority compared to the other reward topics supported by reward and motivation theory.
Second Most important Reward topic
Third most important Reward topic
Fourth most important Reward topic
