ASSESSMENT BRIEFING

The Assessment

Set of exercises and test (no exam conditions) (SET) (60% of total grade)

The SET is computer-based but more geared to testing the student has a solid understanding of econometric methods and can independently apply them in empirical analysis. The word limit is 3,000.

Most questions involve:

1. obtaining EViews outputs for the datasets/case studies provided,
2. an analysis of that output, and
3. a discussion of the results, implementing the methods taught in class. The assignment papers are designed so students learn the content progressively by ‘making’, i.e. applying the methodologies taught to different datasets/case studies. Students are expected to work on the assignment every week either on campus or from outside campus using the EViews software. EViews is accessible from outside campus through the Splashtop application, which will be provided to the students at the beginning of the semester.

LEARNING OUTCOMES ADDRESSED:

• Demonstrate a deep and systematic understanding of the CLRM and its estimation and statistical testing, time series econometrics, and out-of-sample forecasting techniques.
• Relate the study of theoretical econometrics to a comprehensive understanding of techniques and methodologies applicable to critically analyse economic and financial data.
• Show technical expertise and autonomy in using the EViews statistical software package for econometric analysis in different contexts.
