This research is built to fill these gaps by documenting the experiences of Black men in London so as to understand the ways in which they might have regarded help-seeking and some ways to help them to overcome the barriers. There is still a need for systematic and qualitative examination of the mental health help-seeking experience of Black men in London as a result of social inequalities, prejudice, and stereotype. The upturning literature reveals that Black men experience considerable digital and clinically-based barriers for mental health services, owing to institutional racism, cultural insensitive, and the medical-mistrust phenomenon. Mental illness is considered as a sign of weakness hence leads to stigma, and the Black community would not expect any person with such an illness to show weakness.
However, these challenges have recently been met with increasing understandings of the necessity of culturally specific programs various context in Black males’ lives. For instance, when (Kersey-Matusiak, 2012) proposed that interventions should be conducted in community setting to assess Black men’s mental health concerns in non-stigmatized environments. However, there is still limited empirical knowledge about how the disparate experiences are constituted by Black men, and what promotes or thwarts Black men’s utilisation of mental health services.
